Employment Type: 6-month Contract (W-2 or 1099/IC)
Compensation: Up to $50/hour W-2 or up to $56/hour 1099/IC (depending on experience)
This System Administrator contract role focuses on keeping enterprise systems stable, secure, and efficient across a hybrid, multi-OS environment. Success in this role requires strong Windows and Linux administration skills, a security-first mindset, and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues to root cause and drive durable remediation. You will partner with stakeholders to assess current-state systems, improve operational practices, and maintain reliable service for core business applications.
Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain servers across a multi-OS, hybrid IT environment, ensuring availability and performance for business-critical services.
- Manage Windows Server administration with emphasis on Active Directory, Group Policy, security hardening, and administrative automation.
- Perform Linux administration tasks including configuration, patching, access control, service management, and troubleshooting.
- Analyze, prioritize, and remediate IT security issues; implement corrective actions to reduce risk and prevent recurrence.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for incidents and recurring problems; document findings and implement long-term fixes.
- Support physical and virtual infrastructure operations, including provisioning, capacity planning, maintenance, and recovery procedures.
- Administer and support ERP systems and other enterprise applications, coordinating changes to minimize downtime and user impact.
- Review existing systems and operational processes, recommend improvements aligned to best practices, and help implement changes.
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation, runbooks, and change records to support operational continuity.
- Communicate status, risks, and technical decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Skills:
- 5 years of experience in IT systems administration.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated holistic understanding of IT environments, including infrastructure, identity, security, networking dependencies, and enterprise applications.
- Strong Windows administration experience with emphasis on Active Directory, Group Policy, security, and scripting/automation.
- Strong IT security background, including analysis and remediation of security issues in server and identity environments.
- Linux administration experience in production environments.
- Experience administering servers in a multi-OS, hybrid IT environment.
- Hands-on experience supporting physical and virtual infrastructure.
- Experience supporting ERP systems and other enterprise applications in an operational environment.
- Proven ability to perform root-cause issue analysis and drive effective remediation.
Preferred Skills:
- 10 years of experience in IT systems administration.
- Certifications or equivalent hands-on experience with Windows Active Directory, PowerShell, Azure Intune, and Hyper-V virtualization.
