The Tax Accountant is responsible for supporting the company’s tax-related activities including
preparation, filing, reconciliation, and compliance for sales and use tax, VAT, and property taxes. This role supports both the general accounting function and tax-specific operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and contributing to financial reporting.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Prepare and file timely and accurate sales and use tax returns; ensure compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
• Maintain and update tax schedules, rates, and jurisdictional requirements across multiple regions.
• Reconcile tax accounts (sales and use, VAT, and property tax) to the general ledger and prepare adjusting journal entries as needed.
• Assist with tax-related inquiries from auditors, government agencies, and internal stakeholders.
• Monitor changes in tax legislation and communicate relevant updates to finance and leadership teams.
• Register for sales and use tax accounts in new jurisdictions as the company expands.
• Support tax audits by gathering documentation and responding to auditor requests.
• Respond to information and reporting requests from internal departments and external offices
worldwide.
• Create detailed spreadsheets and documentation for tax filings, reconciliations, and internal
reporting.
• Participate in month-end close tasks including tax accruals, prepayments, and financial analysis.
• Maintain a strong understanding of accounting and tax processes and systems.
• Work cross-functionally to provide accurate and timely data for decision-making.
• Demonstrate professionalism and maintain confidentiality of financial and tax information.
SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS
• CPA license a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of PowerPoint and tax software tools preferred.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
• Ability to work independently while following precise procedures and instructions.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to interpret and apply tax laws, regulations, and guidelines to real-world business
operations.
• Comfortable working under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting with a focus on sales/use or other indirect taxes, or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience preparing and reconciling tax returns (sales/use/VAT/property tax) preferred.
