Overview:

Agile Defense is seeking a seasoned and forward-thinking Technical Lead to drive data-centric strategy, innovation, and transformation across government client programs. This senior-level position will provide oversight and strategic guidance for data science, data engineering, and analytics initiatives leveraging tools such as Databricks, Qlik, Tableau, Power BI, and Palantir’s MAVEN Smart Systems. The ideal candidate will focus on leadership, vision, and AI maturity, with less emphasis on day-to-day development and more on enabling teams, aligning with organizational goals, and elevating data and AI practices. 


Responsibilities/Duties:   

 

·      Serve as the senior technical leader for multi-disciplinary data teams supporting clients with advanced analytics, reporting, and AI development. 

·      Establish engineering best practices and ensure compliance across the entire portfolio. This includes and is not limited to documentation, linting standards, utilization of source code repositories, unit testing, CI/CD pipelines, code peer review, etc.

·      Shape and evolve the organization’s AI maturity roadmap, including governance, scalability, and ethical AI practices. 

·      Communicate complex technical solutions clearly to senior leadership, stakeholders, and government partners. 

·      Collaborate with program managers, mission leads, and system integrators to define project priorities and success metrics. 

·      Guide architectural decisions, technology stack selections, and platform integration across tools such as Databricks, MAVEN Smart Systems, Tableau, Qlik, and Power BI. 

·      Provide strategic oversight of data science, data engineering, and business intelligence efforts, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and mission outcomes. 

·      Champion data-driven decision-making and lead initiatives that increase operational effectiveness, predictive insights, and actionable intelligence. 

·      Lead solution design reviews and mentor technical team members to ensure delivery excellence, innovation, and skill growth. 

·      Promote a culture of design thinking, critical analysis, and continuous improvement across all data efforts. 

·      Employ MLOps best practices when developing, testing, and maintaining data pipelines.

·      Identify data solutions in accordance with agreed organization standards that ensure services are resilient, scalable, and future proof

·      Direct best practices for database security, including setting up user accounts and managing access controls

·      Troubleshoot database-related issues and providing technical support to development teams

·      Improve digital services through rapid prototype and develop solutions on existing infrastructure in a response to emergent requirements

·      Document and maintain applicable organization Software Architecture maps and technology roadmaps

·      Facilitate the “conception though completion” of large-scale digital products, in conjunction with Product teams that can be composed of Engineering, web applications and UX Design

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

·      Strong experience with: 

o   Databricks for scalable data processing and AI/ML workloads 

o   Qlik, Tableau, and Power BI for interactive dashboarding and executive reporting 

o   Palantir MAVEN Smart Systems for mission-critical data integration 

o   Advana

·      Familiarity with cloud-native data architectures (Azure, AWS, or GCP). 

·      Experience with data governance, AI ethics, and emerging federal data strategy standards. 

·      Experience developing enterprise applications with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, and Vue.

·      Experience building modern, responsive, and cross-browser-compatible websites using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Proficiency in manipulating data for analytical assessments and proficient with tools such as Excel / PowerBI.

 

Required Skills/Qualifications:

·      Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, information systems, engineering or other related technical discipline

·      7 years of progressive experience in data science, analytics, or engineering roles with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity. 

·      3 years of experience with common data science languages, including Python and R

·      3 years of experience retrieving, merging, and analyzing structured and unstructured data sources from APIs and databases, including through R, Python, or SQL

·      Experience designing and implementing scalable technologies such as streaming data transformation for joining, analyzing, and processing disparate data sets into features for predictive analytics.

·      Experience leading major technical efforts and guiding development teams to an ideal solution

·      Experience developing and documenting organizational standards for Data Storage, Data Transformation, and Metadata Management

·      Demonstrated ability to translate business challenges into data and AI solutions. 

·      Strategic mindset with hands-on familiarity in developing and overseeing AI/ML use cases. 

·      Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. 

·      Experience managing technical roadmaps, cross-functional teams, and enterprise data initiatives.
