What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Shop Manager position at Agile Automotive Performance?
We offer competitive pay, a wide variety of innovative projects, and a professional team environment.
Agile Automotive is a growing automotive company based in Harford County, Maryland. We work on everything from dedicated race cars and LMP3 prototypes to street performance builds and general repair, so no two days look the same. Unlike dealerships and cookie-cutter shops, there's always something new coming through our doors, and our technicians get to work on a genuinely wide range of cars using cutting-edge technology.
We've grown from a local shop into a regionally and nationally recognized company since our founding in 2003, and we're respected for the care we put into our projects, our clients, and our people. We're a family-owned business and every employee here is valued and treated that way.
The Role
We're looking for a Shop Manager who can fulfill two aspects of the position - someone who is equally comfortable turning wrenches as an A-level technician and leading a team of skilled techs. This is a hands-on leadership role. You won't be managing from behind a desk. You'll be in the shop alongside your team, setting the standard for quality, mentoring technicians, and keeping workflow running smoothly.
This is the right opportunity for an experienced tech who's ready to take the next step, or a manager who hasn't lost their love for the work.
The Duties
- Performing diagnostic and repair work as an A-level technician across a wide range of makes, models, and project types, from daily drivers to high-performance and race builds
- Managing day-to-day shop workflow, scheduling, and job prioritization to keep things running efficiently
- Leading, mentoring, and motivating a team of technicians and holding the shop to a high standard of quality and safety
- Performing quality control checks on completed work before vehicles go back to customers
- Communicating with customers professionally on technical items — explaining services and technical details, and setting realistic timelines
- Working with our front office Operations Manager to streamline workflow
- Helping identify service opportunities that genuinely benefit the customer (we're not a upsell-at-all-costs shop - we build real, long-term relationships)
- Upholding our core values: honesty, quality, and safety - always, without compromise
Who We're Looking For
- An experienced A-level automotive technician with strong diagnostic skills — 5 years of experience preferred
- Someone with prior shop leadership, supervisory, or management experience, or a senior tech who's ready and eager to step into that role
- Experience across a wide range of makes and models - resto build, performance or luxury vehicle experience is a big plus
- A racing or performance background is a serious bonus (we see everything from minivan sliding doors to LMP3 race prep)
- A natural leader who earns respect through competence and character, not just a title
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to juggle multiple jobs and priorities without letting quality slip
- Someone who builds relationships, with customers and with the team, because that's how we've built this business
What We Offer
- Competitive pay commensurate with experience - this is a management-level role and we'll compensate accordingly
- Consistent, guaranteed full-time hours and a steady paycheck
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Company-sponsored retirement plan with matching contributions
- Employee discount
- Professional development - we've been building knowledge since 2003 and we share it
- A close-knit, motivated team where your leadership will actually matter
The Location
We're in Forest Hill, Maryland - suburban Harford County, with easy access to Baltimore and the I-95 corridor. If you're considering relocating, Harford County offers a great quality of life: rural character, beautiful state parks, a convenient downtown Bel Air, and one of the top-rated school systems in the country.
