Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Vice President & Head of IT Business Applications will be a pivotal member of the enterprise technology leadership team, responsible for driving the strategy, delivery, and support of all business applications across a rapidly growing network of MGAs.

This role is accountable for establishing a modern, scalable, and integrated application ecosystem that enables underwriting, claims, billing, and distribution capabilities across multiple entities — balancing standardization with flexibility to support diverse business models. The leader will ensure that each MGA within the group can operate efficiently while benefiting from shared digital platforms, data services, and integration frameworks.

The ideal candidate will be a technology delivery executive with deep insurance domain expertise, particularly in MGA operations, systems integration, and core platform delivery. This individual must bring a strong balance of strategic vision and executional discipline, capable of leading complex technology initiatives across distributed business units.

The VP & Head of IT Business Applications will lead a team of application delivery professionals, product owners, and vendor partners, driving the roadmap for core and peripheral insurance platforms while ensuring successful onboarding of newly acquired MGAs into the enterprise technology ecosystem.

Key Focus Areas Include

  • Multi-Entity Application Enablement: Deliver shared platforms that enable rapid onboarding and operational scalability for MGAs with varying technology maturity.
  • Core Systems Modernization: Lead design and delivery of underwriting, policy, billing, claims, and CRM systems that can flexibly support multiple MGAs.
  • Application Rationalization: Streamline redundant systems post-acquisition, creating an efficient, supportable application landscape.
  • Integration & Interoperability: Implement standardized integration patterns for data, APIs, and workflows across MGA systems and corporate platforms.
  • Delivery Governance: Establish agile delivery frameworks, portfolio management, and execution discipline to deliver measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Application Portfolio Leadership: Own and manage the roadmap for all business applications supporting MGA operations, including underwriting workbench, policy administration and other systems that will be onboarded.
  • Delivery & Implementation Oversight: Lead delivery of new systems and enhancements across the MGA portfolio, ensuring adherence to architecture standards and delivery best practices.
  • MGA Technology Integration: Partner with M&A, operations, and business unit leaders to evaluate acquired MGA technology environments, plan system transitions, and integrate into the enterprise platform ecosystem.
  • Core Platform Delivery: Oversee implementation of next-generation underwriting workbench, policy administration and other underwriting systems, ensuring configurability and reusability across MGAs.
  • Digital Enablement: Develop and maintain digital tools for brokers and underwriters, including quoting, submissions, and binding portals.
  • Vendor and Partner Management: Manage technology vendors (e.g., Duck Creek, Majesco, Salesforce, Guidewire, EIS, Federato, Convr, Sunlight etc) and integration partners to deliver on business commitments.
  • Cloud Transformation: Drive migration of business applications to Azure or similar cloud environments to improve performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Data & Integration Enablement: Collaborate with the enterprise data and architecture teams to ensure seamless data flow between MGA systems and central data lakehouse environments.
  • Regulatory and Compliance Alignment: Ensure systems adhere to insurance regulatory requirements (licensing, bordereaux reporting, data privacy, and surplus lines compliance).
  • Operational Excellence: Define KPIs and SLAs for uptime, performance, incident management, and delivery throughput. Drive continuous improvement through metrics-based management.
  • Business Partnership: Build strong working relationships with underwriting, operations, and finance leaders across all MGAs, ensuring application strategy is tightly aligned to business priorities.
  • Team Development: Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing, business-focused application delivery organization that blends internal and partner talent.

Requirements

  • 15 years of experience in enterprise application delivery, with at least 10 years in the insurance sector, specifically supporting MGA or MGU operations.
  • Deep understanding of the MGA value chain — including delegated authority workflows, underwriting workbench solutions, and carrier integration.
  • Demonstrated success delivering large-scale policy administration, claims, billing, and CRM implementations.
  • Experience in post-acquisition integration — rationalizing legacy systems and migrating MGAs onto shared platforms.
  • Strong technical grounding in API-driven architectures, microservices, and cloud-native applications (Azure or AWS).
  • Proven ability to manage complex vendor ecosystems, including SaaS providers, system integrators, and platform vendors.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in agile and hybrid delivery models, balancing global resources and business priorities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • Strong understanding of insurance data standards (ACORD), regulatory compliance requirements, and secure software practices.

DESIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Strategic Delivery Leadership: Ability to define and execute a unified business applications strategy across a federated MGA ecosystem.
  • Insurance Domain Depth: Deep familiarity with underwriting, policy lifecycle, claims, billing, and bordereaux processes unique to MGAs.
  • Integration Mindset: Skilled at harmonizing multiple systems into a cohesive, scalable, and data-driven technology environment.
  • Executional Rigor: Proven track record of delivering complex application programs on time and on budget.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Builds trust and alignment across business units, vendors, and corporate leadership.
  • Change Leadership: Navigates and leads organizational change during system transitions and modernization efforts.
  • Operational Accountability: Drives continuous improvement in service delivery, application uptime, and user satisfaction.
  • Innovation & Agility: Champions modern delivery practices and digital tools that enhance speed-to-market and business agility.
