Position Overview

The Fleet Shop Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and upfitting ARI's on-highway fleet, including Toyota pickup trucks, Dodge/Ram pickup trucks, service vehicles, equipment trailers, lowboy trailers, and commercial semi-trucks. This position performs preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and vehicle modifications to ensure fleet assets remain safe, reliable, compliant, and ready to support operations throughout the organization.

Working closely with the Fleet Operations Coordinator, the Fleet Shop Mechanic helps maximize fleet availability and minimize downtime by maintaining a high standard of workmanship, safety, and equipment readiness. This position plays an important role in supporting ARI's field operations by ensuring vehicles and transportation equipment are properly maintained and prepared to meet operational demands.

Schedule

  • Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 4:00pm.
  • Additional hours, overtime, and occasional weekend work may be required based on fleet needs and business demands.

Work Location

  • This position is currently based out of ARI's South Eugene shop facility. Due to evolving operational needs and facility requirements, the primary work location may change in the future but will remain within the greater Eugene/Springfield area.

Compensation

  • $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Full Benefits package available for full-time employees.

Job Requirements/ Qualifications

  • Education and Training: Associate degree, technical certificate, or vocational training in diesel technology, automotive technology, or a related field required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience maintaining and repairing light-duty vehicles, commercial trucks, trailers, or fleet equipment required.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: Strong understanding of gasoline and diesel engines, drivetrains, steering, suspension systems, brake systems, electrical systems, emissions systems, and hydraulic components.
  • Diagnostic Equipment: Experience utilizing manufacturer diagnostic software, scan tools, and troubleshooting equipment preferred.
  • Driver License: Valid driver’s license with a driving record that includes no more than 3 moving violations and/or chargeable accidents in the last 3 years and no DUIIs.
  • Background Check: Required through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in compliance with federal government restrictions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Fleet Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on company Toyota and Dodge/Ram pickup trucks, service vehicles, equipment trailers, lowboy trailers, and commercial semi-trucks.
  • Vehicle Upfitting: Install and maintain lift kits, suspension upgrades, lighting systems, trailer brake controllers, toolboxes, service body components, safety equipment, communication equipment, and other vehicle accessories.
  • Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines, electrical systems, steering and suspension components, braking systems, driveline components, and emissions-related systems.
  • Trailer Maintenance: Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on equipment trailers, lowboy trailers, utility trailers, and specialty hauling equipment.
  • DOT Compliance Support: Assist with maintaining fleet compliance by performing inspections, identifying repair needs, and completing required maintenance on DOT-regulated vehicles and trailers.
  • Fleet Readiness: Ensure vehicles and trailers are maintained, inspected, and ready to support operational needs throughout the company.
  • Maintenance Documentation: Complete work orders, inspection reports, service records, and maintenance documentation accurately and timely.
  • Repair Coordination: Communicate repair recommendations, maintenance schedules, and parts requirements to the Fleet Operations Coordinator and Field Service Director.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with dealerships, vendors, manufacturers, and service providers to support repairs, warranty work, and specialized maintenance needs.
  • Shop Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment, including proper care of tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Safety Commitment: Maintains a safety-first mindset and consistently follows all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to help ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties to contribute to the company's overall success.

Physical Demands

  • Physical Endurance: Standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, and working in various positions throughout the workday.
  • Environmental Exposure: Work is performed primarily in a shop environment with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, fumes, and vibration.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and components weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
  • Tool Operation: Frequent use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, shop machinery, and lifting devices.
  • Mobility: Ability to climb onto vehicles, trailers, and equipment to perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Flexibility: Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching in awkward positions.
  • Dexterity: Manual dexterity and fine motor skills required for handling tools and small parts
