Job Description (Direct Support Professional)
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) assists individuals with developmental or behavioral needs to live as independently as possible by providing personalized care, support, and advocacy for daily living, community integration, and skill development. Key responsibilities include personal care, meal preparation, medication administration, household tasks, and fostering social and life skills through a person-centered approach that respects the individual's rights and choices. Assist individuals who may have barriers in their background (Probation, Parole, Court Appearance and Substance Abuse difficulties).
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Personal Care:
Assisting individuals with bathing, dressing, toileting, and other personal hygiene needs.
- Daily Living:
Supporting with meal preparation, grocery shopping, basic housekeeping, and managing daily routines.
- Skill Development:
Training individuals to perform daily tasks, manage finances, and develop social skills to enhance their independence.
- Community Integration:
Facilitating participation in community activities, recreation, and access to community resources.
- Medication Administration:
Providing medication as prescribed, with appropriate training and authorization.
- Advocacy:
Helping individuals communicate their needs and goals and supporting them in making informed choices.
- Documentation & Record-Keeping:
Maintaining accurate records of services provided, client progress, and other required documentation.
- Safety:
Ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals, including preventing falls and other risks.
- Collaboration:
Working with families, healthcare professionals, and other support team members to implement individual care plans.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Requires H.S Diploma/GED and a valid California Driver’s License. One year
experience working with DD population preferred. Possess the ability to read and
understand treatment/IPP and work well under pressure.

- Physical Stamina: Ability to walk, stand for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, and light-to-heavy lifting.
Other Requirements: Requires H.S Diploma/GED and a valid California Driver’s License. One year of experience working with the DD population is preferred. Possess the ability to read and understand treatment/IPP and work well under pressure, background checks, and sometimes CPR/First Aid certification.
