Job Description: Weatherization Installer

Department: Weatherization

Reports To: Weatherization Director

Supervises: N/A

Salary: $18.00 per hour starting rate. Pay increases with experience

38 hours per week - four Day work week

Monday – Thursday (9 ½) per day

Opportunity to earn overtime on a voluntary basis

Job Summary

Installer General Duties – General Weatherization Services that include installing sidewall and attic insulation. Often requires maneuvering in tight spaces or kneeling for long periods of time.

Light construction such as building doors, drywall patches and caulking air leaks around windows and doors. Apply 2-part foam in basement sills to prevent air leaks. Install weather strips, door sweeps, polyflex, and load work trucks with inventory items. All measures are to follow the Standard Work Specifications (SWS) book. Installer is responsible for maintaining and accounting for all ACE of NEPA materials and equipment. Each employee participates in job site cleanup, leaving customer’s property in the same condition or better prior to weatherizing.

Typical Examples of Installer Work – Weatherization tasks may include building a door, caulking windows, installing attic and/or sidewall insulation, cleanup and other type of weatherization services. An installer is expected to work in all weather conditions and will be exposed to some harsh weather conditions. In addition, each installer will have to occasionally work on mobile homes’ underbellies and crawlspaces to apply Typar. Window work such as applying polyflex, caulking or sash locks are routine. Spray 2-part foam in basement sills and other places to prevent air leakage. Perform and document Blower Door tests daily for the entire home and basement & attic zonals, if applicable.

Review all paperwork in its entirety and be sure the paperwork is completed and signed prior to handing it into the Crew Chief. Installers are to take directions from Crew Chiefs and have the ability to use a camera, power tools, and write brief narratives on work performed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Each Installer is expected to have a general understanding of carpentry, mechanical or electrical skills, as well as building code requirements. Both must possess the ability to use hammers, saws, blower door testers, blown insulation machines, small power tools, have a valid driver’s license and be able to take direction from a supervisor. Each employee is required to attend continuing energy education courses as updates and new technologies become available at Agency’s expense. The ability to work overtime when needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear and use hands and fingers to operate and handle keyboards and office and/or classroom equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

There is occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds.
