Responsibilities
- Assist the sommelier in developing and updating wine lists, including selecting wines that complement seasonal menus and culinary offerings
- Provide knowledgeable wine recommendations to guests, upselling where appropriate to enhance their experience and increase sales
- Support food service operations by serving wine, maintaining proper glassware presentation, and ensuring proper food and beverage handling procedures are followed
- Engage with guests to educate them about different wines, regions, and tasting notes, fostering a welcoming atmosphere
- Manage POS systems such as Aloha POS and Micros POS for accurate order entry, billing, and cash handling
- Contribute to banquet and catering events by assisting with wine service setup and ensuring seamless execution
- Uphold food safety standards and proper sanitation practices throughout all aspects of beverage service
Experience
- Previous restaurant experience with a focus on food service, serving, or beverage operations is highly preferred
- Familiarity with Toast POS systems
- Experience in fine dining environments or banquet settings will help you excel in this role
- Knowledge of menu planning, culinary concepts, and meal preparation enhances your ability to recommend perfect pairings
- Strong customer service skills combined with sales acumen for upselling premium wines and enhancing guest satisfaction
- Background in the food industry with exposure to catering, food handling, cashiering, or food safety protocols is beneficial
- A passion for the food industry coupled with culinary experience supports your success as an Assistant Sommelier
