Job Description Summary
The College of Business at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Agricultural Entrepreneurship. This position is situated within our growing Agriculture Entrepreneurship (AE) degree program, which has demonstrated rapid enrollment growth as its curriculum continues to evolve and position graduates for competitive careers in the current and future agriculture job market.
We seek a scholar with a strong academic foundation and active research agenda in agricultural economics, agribusiness, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will combine rigorous disciplinary expertise with applied teaching that prepares the next generation of agriculture leaders, managers, and entrepreneurs. Areas of expertise and teaching interest should include one or more of the following: agricultural economics, agribusiness management, agricultural finance and financial management, agricultural marketing and commodity trading, risk management, and global agricultural trade and policy.
The successful candidate will maintain a productive scholarly agenda appropriate to a regional comprehensive university, contribute to program development and curriculum refinement, and engage in service to the college, university, and profession. Candidates who can connect disciplinary scholarship to the economic realities of Eastern Oregon's agricultural communities are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
This position requires 36 load hours of teaching (approximately 3 courses per quarter over 3 quarters) with expectations for scholarly productivity and service. Specific responsibilities include:
Teaching
• Strong teaching and pedagogical skills are valued at EOU. The qualified candidate will be strong in both classroom and online teaching modalities, and willing to mentor students in career preparation.
• Teach undergraduate courses in agricultural economics, agribusiness, agricultural finance, agricultural marketing, risk management, global agricultural trade and policy, and related courses as needed. Curriculum design efforts to strengthen the program are valued.
• Teach introductory courses in general business and data management and analysis as needed.
• Deliver courses in in-person, online, hybrid, and hyflex modalities as program needs require.
• Develop and revise course curricula to reflect current scholarship, applied best practices, and the needs of the regional agricultural economy. Innovative teaching, utilizing current and forthcoming technologies is highly valued.
• Incorporate experiential learning and applied methods to support student engagement and career readiness.
Scholarship & Research
• Maintain an active and productive scholarly agenda appropriate to a regional comprehensive university, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and/or applied research. A minimum of 1 peer-reviewed publication is required for tenure.
• Pursue opportunities to connect scholarly work to regional agricultural industry and community needs. A minimum of 2 national or international presentations is required for tenure.
Advising & Student Development
• Mentor undergraduate students in the AE degree program.
• Support student professional development, including internship placements and career networking.
• Participate in AE program recruitment and outreach to regional high schools, community colleges, and community organizations.
Service
• Contribute to AE program development, assessment, and curriculum planning.
• Participate in college and university committees and governance.
• Engage in professional service to relevant academic and industry organizations.
Minimum Qualifications
• Ph.D. in agricultural economics, agribusiness, agricultural and resource economics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Degree must be in hand by the start date.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching in agriculture, agribusiness, agricultural economics, or related field.
• At least one course of teaching experience, or ability to provide evidence of teaching potential.
• Evidence of scholarly productivity or a research agenda with clear potential for peer-reviewed publication and presentation.
• Knowledge of U.S. agricultural and food production systems, including those in the western United States.
• Commitment to the personal and professional growth of students, including communication competency and problem-solving abilities.
• Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
• In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching agricultural economics, agribusiness, agricultural finance and agriculture marketing, or closely related field at the lower and upper-division level, in both face-to-face and online modalities.
• Active or emerging record of peer-reviewed publications in agricultural economics, agribusiness, or a related field.
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods, including use of secondary datasets relevant to agriculture and food systems.
• Demonstrated excellence in developing and directing experiential learning methods to convey knowledge content and associated skill sets to both lower and upper-division students.
• Strong foundation in business principles and curriculum
• Additional agriculture-related area of expertise in research (i.e. animal science, crop science, etc.)
• Experience seeking external funding for research and programmatic support.
• Experience working with advisory boards
• Experience with learning assessment and course-level outcomes measurement.
• Familiarity with the economic and agricultural landscape of rural Oregon or comparable regions.
• Experience developing and promoting academic programs to communities, school districts, and community colleges.
• Online teaching professional development, credentials, and/or certification (e.g., Quality Matters).
• Experience with a Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas).
