GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is looking for a motivated Soils & Surfacing Lab Technician to join its team in Cheyenne and play a key role in building and maintaining Wyoming's transportation infrastructure. In this hands-on position, you'll work under the guidance of experienced professionals to help ensure the state's highways and roadways meet the highest standards of safety and performance.
You'll perform testing activities for the assigned section applying industry standards from organizations such as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), along with WYDOT specifications. Your work will include testing, reviewing data, and generating reports that guide critical decisions in roadway construction and materials quality. By contributing your technical skills and attention to detail, you'll help deliver a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system that serves communities across Wyoming.Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range but still true to the history of the Old West. - Performs testing, inspection, or data collection using sophisticated equipment and complex procedures to ensure specification compliance or for engineering analysis and design
- Performs training and reviews competency to qualify entry level technicians

Qualifications
PREFERENCES:

KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of practical applications of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
- Knowledge of concrete and asphalt mix design methods, materials science and materials properties
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of specialized instruments and equipment in order to perform diagnostics and repair
- Knowledge of AASHTO R18, Establishing and Implementing a Quality Management System for Construction Materials Testing Laboratories
- Knowledge of calibration procedures for equipment
- Knowledge of highway construction/fabrication materials and procedures
- Knowledge of quality control procedures
- Knowledge of safety procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
