The City of Indianola is currently welcoming applications for the position of Parks Maintenance Worker - Horticultural Assistant for the Parks Department.
The City of Indianola (pop. 16,069) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses. The starting salary range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00 /hour depending on qualifications. This is a seasonal position needed from March - November averaging 25-30 hours per week, includes weekends. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening and background check. Position is open until filled.

This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:
- Flowerbed preparation and planting
- Weeding and deadheading flower beads, including perennials and roses
- Greenhouse maintenance
- Picking up trash
- Mowing and mulching
- Assisting with watering, fertilizing, pruning
- Planting trees, tree maintenance, which includes pruning, wrapping, staking, and assisting with landscaping.
- Follows OSHA procedures to ensure safety policies and procedures are enforced for the protection of the crews, co-workers and public.
The successful candidate will have:
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Must have general knowledge of the following tools: roto-tiller, hedge trimmer, small chain saw, tractor, mower, string trimmer, and sidewalk edger
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license
- Subject to a post-offer drug and alcohol screening and background check
