The Burrillville School Department is seeking qualified candidates for a Long Term Substitute Reading Specialist for Steere Farm Elementary School. TOWN OF BURRILLVILLE Burrillville School Department Position Description Title:Reading Specialist, Long Term Substitute Supervisor:Building Principal, Assistant Superintendent Department:School Department GENERAL PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Principal, the Reading Specialist will support the Reading/Language Arts Program and MTSS initiatives by promoting an approach to literacy learning that provides students with a continuum of listening, speaking, reading, and writing with its basis in the science of reading. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates understanding of a comprehensive structured literacy program with a basis in the science of reading, incorporating reading and writing development. Collaborates with all staff to carry out implementation of existing reading programs and approaches as determined by the district. Provides appropriate reading instruction to meet the individual needs of all learners, in class and in small, structured groups. Carries out ongoing formative and progress monitoring assessments that inform instructional decisions, including the need for continued reading intervention. Interacts with parents to support student learning and update them about student progress, as needed or required by the building principal. Assists in conducting both State and District assessments as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Certification as a Reading Specialist is preferred. Elementary certification K-6 and secondary English 6-12 may also be considered.
