Agriculture CTE Teacher

Job Description

Mabton School District is seeking an Agriculture CTE Teacher to expand student opportunities in Agricultural Science and technical trades while strengthening our growing FFA program. We are looking for an additional staff member with experience in agriculture, FFA, and student leadership who can connect classroom learning to real-world industry practices and leadership development. The ideal candidate will help build on an already strong program by supporting high-quality instruction, hands-on learning, and student engagement through FFA and career-connected experiences. Candidates with either teaching experience or relevant agriculture industry experience are encouraged to apply, as industry expertise is valued as a pathway into this role.
Essential Functions
  • Provide rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in the Agriculture content area.
  • Deliver instruction using industry-aligned equipment, simulations, and practices consistent with current Agriculture CTE standards and Washington CTE program requirements.
  • Maintain required program records, safety protocols, equipment inventories, and compliance with OSPI CTE and district/agency policies.
  • Integrate employability, leadership, and professional skills throughout instruction, connecting classroom content to real-world settings.
  • Develop and assess student competency using OSPI-approved frameworks, industry-based standards, and performance-based evaluations.
  • Support a FFA chapter as the program's Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO), providing year-round leadership, advising, and supervision of student activities and competitive events.
  • Embed leadership and technical skill development into instruction, connecting classroom assignments with CTSO projects, community service, and career exploration experiences.
  • Collaborate with CTE directors, colleagues, advisory committees, and industry partners to review curriculum, maintain program quality, and ensure compliance with program standards.
  • Support students pursuing industry-recognized credentials as permitted by the district and state regulations.
  • Implement culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and inclusive instructional practices to ensure equitable access to high-quality health science learning.
  • Maintain required documentation for CTE program approval, advisory committee functions, safety compliance, work-based learning, and student progress reporting.

CTE teachers may enter the profession through either the Plan 1 (University Preparation) or Plan 2 (Business & Industry) route as recognized by OSPI. The position supports candidates transitioning directly from industry or from teacher preparation programs and provides mentoring to complete all requirements for the Initial CTE Certificate.
Required Qualifications
  • Must meet all OSPI requirements for issuance of an Initial CTE Certificate, including fingerprint/background clearance and any testing or coursework prerequisites applicable to the chosen certification route (see below).
  • Ability to maintain CTE program standards and complete all professional development and industry-related updates required for continuing certification.
Plan 1 - University Preparation (Approved Program Route):
  • Completion of a Washington State approved teacher preparation program in the relevant CTE endorsement area; and
  • All requirements for the Initial CTE Certificate (Plan 1) as outlined by OSPI, including coursework, supervised teaching, and testing requirements.
Plan 2 - Industry Expertise Route (Business & Industry Route):
  • Documented and verified industry experience in the CTE program area consistent with OSPI requirements (typically 6,000 hours; may include a combination of paid experience, self-employment, internship, or specialized schooling/training aligned to the endorsement); and
  • Completion of OSPI-required CTE pedagogy courses for the Plan 2 Initial CTE Certificate, or willingness to complete them within OSPI timelines after hire.

Candidates may be hired prior to completing required CTE pedagogy coursework, provided they:
  • Meet OSPI's minimum industry experience requirements for the endorsement area (typically 6,000 hours, or OSPI-approved equivalents) and
  • Are eligible for, and able to obtain, the Initial CTE Certificate (Plan 2) upon hire or shortly thereafter.

Candidates hired under Plan 2 must complete all OSPI-required pedagogy coursework within the timelines established by OSPI to maintain continued certification and employment.

  • Advising and supervising the local CTSO chapter associated with the program area
  • Integrating CTSO activities into classroom instruction and extended learning opportunities as required by CTE program standards.
  • Supporting student participation in leadership development, career exploration, community engagement, and competitive events sponsored by the CTSO.
  • Coordinating with school and district leadership to maintain compliance with OSPI expectations for CTSO engagement and reporting.
