Forest Park Forever is seeking Horticulture Interns for summer positions in the jewel of St. Louis, Forest Park. The Intern will work side by side with the Horticulturists on day-to-day management of two hundred plus acres of land within the Park. Interns will gain knowledge on horticulture and landscaping practices in areas ranging from formal to natural settings.
Activities include annual and perennial planting, bed preparation, mulching, watering, fertilizing, turf management, tree and shrub maintenance, irrigation maintenance and other horticulture duties. Additional activities performed include litter pick-up, working with volunteers and some special events.
Some areas that will be maintained in Forest Park will include: The Grand Basin, The Boathouse, The Dennis and Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center, Dwight Davis Tennis Center, The World's Fair Pavilion, Murphy Lake, and Park Entrances.
Requirements
Qualified applicants will be a rising college Junior, Senior, or recent graduate with coursework in botany and/or land management. Interns will work Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm. Interns will be performing physical work outside in all types of weather condition including rain, heat and humidity. Must be able to work on feet for extended periods of time and to lift, carry or push 50lbs. Ability to follow oral and written directions is required. Preferred work term is June to August, but starting and ending dates are flexible. Pay is competitive. Housing is not provided.
