Grain Operations Supervisor

Position Summary:

The Grain Operations Supervisor is responsible for training and supervising all full-time and seasonal grain operations staff, reporting to the VP Grain Operations. Be a hands-on team lead, perform elevator operations and ensure work is completed in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring exceptional service and professionalism for our patrons.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Train and supervise elevator operations staff and seasonal employees in operations and facility maintenance/upkeep.
• Act as a working supervisor, leading by example, providing general work direction, and fostering communication with a strong customer service mentality.
• Ensure that workforce is available to handle daily needs of the elevator and are informed of daily duties.
• Ensure that all employees have received and practice proper safety regulations.
• Follow and enforce all company safety procedures and programs as well as understand and enforce OSHA state and federal safety regulations.
• Participate in weekly safety meetings and assignments.
• Understand the layout of grain handling equipment, how the equipment works, understand when maintenance is needed, and ensure it's completed properly.
• Comply with elevator housekeeping and equipment maintenance programs to avoid safety hazards and equipment breakdowns: ensure cleanliness and orderliness of the grain handling area including tunnels, concrete grounds, grass areas, and any other areas within the plant as delegated by the Location Manager. Maintain dust inside and outside of the plant, keeping it at minimal levels. Clean up spilled product and/or move it to a safe area. Ensure maintenance and housekeeping are properly documented per established programs.
• Responsible for the operational functions of handling grain including grain receiving, storage, cleaning, drying, blending, conditioning, and loading out.
• Assist with bin measurements and other inventory count procedures.
• Monitor stored grain condition to assure quality and quantity.
• Operate all aspects of the scale including inbound/outbound/transfer, weights and grades, proper account selection for customers, transfer locations and/or direct locations.
• Operate equipment including forklift, skid loader, wheel loader, tractor, and yard truck.
• Communicate with department management and logistics personnel on grain movement.
• Keep management informed on technical developments and potential operation improvements within the elevator.
• Provide input to management for yearly budget.
• Help guide the professional development of the grain operations team.
• Continuously improve your supervisory skills and job knowledge.
• Represent yourself and the company professionally at all times in action and appearance.
• Assist neighboring facilities and/or perform other duties when requested.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in an agricultural-related program or equivalent industry experience.
• 3-5 years of grain handling/elevator experience.
• Proven supervisory experience in a grain handling environment.
• Ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
• Ability to be an involved/engaged member of a team and be willing to act and think independently.
• Must have effective communication skills.
• Ability to work extended hours as needed to meet business demands.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in an outdoor environment that exposes you to grain dust, weather elements, and heavy truck and machinery activity.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs on occasion.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and/or crouch on occasion.
• Ability to climb rail cars, ladders, stairs, and bins frequently; heights could be at elevations up to 150 ft.
