This position performs a variety of maintenance and customer service functions at various sub-departments within the Agriculture and Education Department.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Assists in the set-up, maintenance, and tear down of exhibits.
- Assist with the set-up and maintenance of livestock barns, small animal building/exhibit and arena, which includes but is not limited to daily cleaning, sweeping, shoveling and raking of pens, stalls, show rings and arena as directed.
- Assist with show ring duties, directing traffic, assisting exhibitors move-in and move-out of venue.
- Following proper safety policies, practices and using personal protection equipment when closing areas using safety barriers and signage to protect other staff and the public. Hanging banners, signs, painting, planting flowerpots, etc.
- Performs manual labor involved in the installation of exhibits and interactives.
- Cleans and maintains exhibits, which may include using power and hand tools and equipment. Reports damaged tools and equipment to supervisor.
- Assists with children's activities and interacts with guests to provide accurate information and assistance to ensure guests have an enjoyable experience.
- Keeps abreast of information in order to answer questions and concerns with timely and knowledgably responses in person or on the phone.
- Practices good physical work methods, utilizes good work habits, and meets established production standards.
- Wears proper personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, googles) and works in a safe work environment at all times.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested when needed.
Qualifications
- Excellent customer service and ability to work cooperatively with team members and others.
- Follows oral and written instructions.
Working Conditions
- Work is indoors and outdoors.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and be able to multi-task.
- Ability to work independently or cooperatively in a group setting.
- Experience in proper movement of livestock and animal welfare practices.
- Exceptional attendance, punctuality, and dependability.
- Outdoor work may involve some exposure to weather conditions.
- Exposure to farm animals, animal waste, dust, dirt, and unpleasant odors.
- Moves objects at least 30 pounds.
- Works a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- May be exposed to extreme temperatures, manure, airborne dust, fumes, strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting.
