Equine Support Position Position Summary

Equine Support is responsible for daily care of horses, equipment and facilities.
Core Responsibilities

Responsibilities described in this section are fundamental to success in this position.
  • Responsible for general horse care, equipment and facility maintenance.
  • Daily feeding and watering of horses.
  • Daily cleaning of stalls.
  • Operation of farm equipment, such as tractor, spreader, gator, etc.
  • Daily cleaning of feed buckets, water troughs, automatic waterers, etc.
  • Observation of horses and their overall health.
  • Lead mares to and from stocks as needed
  • All work is to be neat, clean, and professional
  • Clean up after yourself and put all tools back where they belong
  • Daily cleaning and tidying of barns and equipment
  • General farm upkeep and maintenance, such as repairing fence, feeders, gates, etc.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are the minimum degrees, certifications, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required of this position.
  • Requires a high school diploma/GED and or an equivalent number of years of education and experience
  • Must be self-motivated and self-managed.
  • Horse experience is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications is a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of machines and tools used in farm operations
  • Knowledge of equestrian facilities, horse stables, and farm operations.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior and breeding practices.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors including heat, cold, sun, and rain.
  • Ability to work long hours during breeding season.
  • Good interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to understand verbal and written instructions and warning labels.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and follow directions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple jobs.
  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
  • The physical demands of the job include the use of hands and fingers, reaching, bending, sitting, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and driving and operating farm equipment.
  • The employee will frequently be exposed to neck flexion/extension, head/neck rotation, awkward shoulder/arm positions, and frequent and/or sustained awkward wrist positions.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and frequently required to list up to 50 lbs. and occasionally required to lift in excess of 100 pounds with proper assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
  • Must be able to pass a drug/alcohol urinalysis and able to drive a vehicle.
Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those one may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be exposed to extreme weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, extreme heat and extreme cold.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate when operating loud machinery.
