Cattle Foreman (Floresville)

Summary/Objective

The main responsibilities and focus objectives for the Cattle Foreman will be to oversee the care and health of cattle on El Zacate., the main hub for the yearling operations for La Babia Cattle Co., located 15 miles west of Floresville. The Cattle Foreman will also be traveling to the San Cristobal Ranch, located in Boerne, at least twice a week to oversee the care and rotations of 300-400 yearlings. The Cattle Foreman will need to live within 30-45-mile proximity to El Zacate. This is a full-time position that will require intense on-site management but offers a lot of room for growth and development.

Essential Functions

Forage Management:

• Rotate and rest pastures when needed.
• Assist in coordinating winter annual planting at El Zacate
• Make recommendations for hay production and grass utilization.
• Coordinate and communicate when to run and shut off pivots.

Cattle Management:

• Processing of incoming cattle and revaccination of cattle on grass
• Work with management and vets to implement successful animal health protocols.
• Rotate cattle as needed.
• Great communication with management about cattle health and performance
• Adhere to Quality Beef Assurance Handling Guidelines.
• Report feeding and doctoring records daily.

Ranch Improvement:

• Assist management with designing and expanding traps for better utilization of the preconditioning area at El Zacate.
• Provide input for continuous improvement of facilities at both locations.
• All planning revolves around increasing head capacity at both ranches.
• On-going, general clean-up around HQ at El Zacate.

Accounting:

• Work with management to develop accurate projections for cattle at both ranches.
• Work with management to develop accurate breakeven for cattle.
• Work with management to make sure that all costing is correct and reported timely.
• A very real need to know the cost of gain for pounds of beef produced at El Zacate.

Required Education and Experience

• High school Diploma
• Undergraduate Degree in Animal Science, Ag Business/Eco, or another Ag Field is preferred.
• Must have at least 2 years cattle handling experience.
