RESPONSIBILITIES: The Agricultural Science Business Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing office operations, daily accounting operations, monitoring cash flow, initiating and processing personnel actions, implementing accounting processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, and maintaining schedule building for each semester. The Business Manager/Accountant reports directly to the chair of the academic department and also works closely with the Farm Manager on financial operations for the University Farm.
This position supports departmental faculty and serves as the initial contact with students and the public. It manages the office within the context of departmental and university regulations and directives, and assumes administrative tasks as needed. The position requires the ability to anticipate tasks that need to be done and to work independently with initiative to accomplish tasks while simultaneously completing the daily routine work.
This position must maintain an excellent working knowledge of and ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations at the federal, state, local and University level, with respect to all institutional and externally funded programs.
This position interacts with various campus personnel as well as personnel from external agencies. Must be knowledgeable of department and university programs in order to answer inquiries based upon administrative policy. Dealing with confidential matters is a critical aspect of this position.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in an area of business, Agricultural Business, or closely related field and one year of experience.
Effective communication skills are necessary and must be able to work independently, exercise good judgment and make good decisions. Must have accuracy in detail work, good organizational techniques, and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in an academic setting or similar setting preferred.
Must have accuracy in detailed work, good organizational techniques, and the ability to work with minimum supervision. Budgetary experience is preferred as well as working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, especially Excel. Experience at an institution of higher education and experience with grants and contracts.
