Position Overview
As a Building Maintenance Technician at ABI, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our school facilities across three campuses are safe, functional, and welcoming. This role requires travel between campuses during the day; therefore, a reliable car and valid driver’s license are essential.
Reporting to the ABI Facilities Director, you will be expected to handle diverse maintenance tasks across our campuses, supporting the organization’s mission of fostering healthy and balanced learning environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, flooring).
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests, addressing issues like leaks, HVAC faults, lighting, and safety concerns.
- Conduct facility inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety and health regulations.
- Manage grounds maintenance including snow removal, landscaping, and upkeep of outdoor spaces.
- Facilitate setup and breakdown for school events, classroom reconfigurations, and community activities.
- Liaise with external contractors for specialized repairs and coordinate project oversight.
- Keep detailed maintenance logs including work orders, inspections, and inventory tracking.
- Implement energy-saving practices and support sustainability initiatives.
- Uphold safety and emergency response protocols to maintain a secure school environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in building or apartment maintenance—schools, residential, or commercial.
- Proficient in general trades (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC basics).
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment safely (ladders, power tools, snow removal gear, etc.).
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sense of urgency.
- Excellent problem-solving and project prioritization abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with staff and contractors.
- Knowledge of safety codes, OSHA, and school safety guidelines.
- Flexibility to handle after-hours emergencies as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and perform physical tasks related to facilities work
- Valid driver’s license, reliable car, and ability to travel between campuses during the workday.
