Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing exceptional animal care across a variety of species, including dogs, cats, and equines. This role involves hands-on animal handling, assisting with medical procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized clinic environment. Prior experience in veterinary clinics, animal husbandry, or kennel work is highly valued. The Veterinary Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our patients and supporting pet owners through excellent communication and pet care.
Responsibilities
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians or veterinary technicians
- Support with animal husbandry tasks including feeding, bathing, grooming, and maintaining cleanliness of kennels and treatment areas
- Prepare animals for surgery or diagnostic procedures, including setting up equipment and ensuring aseptic techniques are followed
- Handle laboratory tasks such as collecting samples, performing basic tests, and recording results accurately
- Assist with pet care routines including feeding, walking, and monitoring behavior for signs of illness or distress
- Support front desk duties such as scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and communicating with pet owners
- Perform animal catheterization, injections, or other medical procedures under supervision as needed
- Maintain detailed knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and laboratory procedures to support clinical operations
- Uphold safety protocols including aseptic technique to prevent infection or contamination during procedures
Experience
- Previous kennel experience or animal handling background preferred
- Veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience highly desirable
- Familiarity with veterinary critical care practices is a plus
- Experience working with animals such as dogs, cats, horses (equine experience preferred), and other small animals
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal restraint techniques, medication administration, and pet care best practices
- Hands-on experience with laboratory procedures or laboratory equipment in a veterinary setting is advantageous
- Strong understanding of animal anatomy and physiology to assist effectively during medical procedures
- Prior front desk or client communication experience is beneficial but not required
