JOB DESCRIPTION:

Are you passionate about creating inspiring workplace environments and bringing innovative design solutions to life? AIS is seeking a talented, collaborative Designer to join our New York City team and play a key role in supporting some of the region's most exciting workplace projects.

This is a hybrid role based in our New York City showroom. You'll split your time between working remotely and working from the showroom, where you'll collaborate with the sales team, meet with clients, and support projects throughout the design process. You'll work closely with dealers, architects, designers, and end users to transform ideas into functional, beautiful workplace solutions that make a lasting impact.

From initial concepts through final specifications, you'll develop furniture layouts, renderings, presentations, and detailed specifications that balance creativity, functionality, and precision. You'll participate in client meetings, contribute design expertise throughout the sales process, and help deliver exceptional customer experience on projects of all sizes.

At AIS, design is a collaborative effort. You'll work alongside an experienced local sales team while also engaging with our national design team to share ideas, learn from industry experts, and stay at the forefront of workplace design trends and product innovation.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

We're looking for a designer who is curious, collaborative, and passionate about creating exceptional workplace environments. You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy partnering with clients, thinking creatively, solving complex design challenges, and bringing ideas to life through thoughtful planning and execution.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, industrial design, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience designing commercial workplace environments for a contract furniture manufacturer, dealership, or architecture and design (A&D) firm.
  • Proficiency in CET Designer and AutoCAD, with the ability to develop accurate furniture plans, specifications, installation drawings, and presentation materials.
  • Demonstrated experience creating workplace solutions through space planning, furniture specification, finish selection, renderings, and client presentations.
  • Strong understanding of contract furniture systems, ancillary products, workplace planning principles, and the design process from concept through installation.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, construction documents, and project requirements while balancing design intent, budget, schedule, and functionality.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, adapt to changing priorities, and consistently deliver high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the confidence to collaborate with sales professionals, dealers, architects, designers, project managers, and end users.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work independently while contributing to a team-first culture.
  • A passion for thoughtful design, continuous learning, and creating exceptional client experiences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with Revit, SketchUp, CAP, Giza, Adobe Creative Suite, or other visualization software.
  • Experience specifying products from multiple commercial furniture manufacturers.
  • Familiarity with current workplace design trends, commercial building standards, and evolving ways people work.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally throughout New York and New Jersey for client meetings, project support, training, and industry events.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate design concepts clearly to clients, dealers, architects, designers, and internal teams.
  • Strong proficiency in CET Designer and AutoCAD, with the ability to produce accurate furniture plans, specifications, renderings, and installation drawings.
  • Working knowledge of commercial furniture systems, ancillary products, workplace planning principles, and furniture specification processes.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, construction documents, and project requirements to develop creative and functional workplace solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn AIS systems and emerging design technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance design intent, functionality, budget, and project timelines.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • You're naturally curious and enjoy solving complex design challenges.
  • You build strong relationships through collaboration and communication.
  • You take ownership of your work and follow projects through to completion.
  • You're organized, adaptable, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • You enjoy learning and staying current with workplace trends and evolving technologies.

At AIS, we have a strong set of values that guide our business and help us align with our customers.
