Job Summary
Overview:
- Be willing to travel to work with Clients in homes or where ever they maybe.
The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) roll provides recovery/oriented support services to individuals receiving behavioral health and/or substance use treatment. Using lived experience and professional training, the CPSS promotes self/advocacy, wellness, stability, and community integration.
The CPSS works collaboratively with the clinical and case management team to support clients in achieving their personal recovery goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Peer Support & Recovery Services
- Provide one-on-one and group peer support services.
- Share lived experience appropriately to promote hope and resilience.
- Assist clients in developing recovery, wellness, and self-care plans.
- Encourage independent living skills and self-advocacy.
- Support clients in managing symptoms and daily stressors.
2. Care Coordination & Community Support
- Assist clients with accessing community resources (housing, employment, benefits, education, healthcare).
- Support attendance at medical, therapy, and social service appointments.
- Help clients build natural support systems (family, peers, community groups).
- Facilitate referrals and follow-ups as needed.
3. Documentation & Compliance
- Complete accurate, timely service notes and documentation.
- Maintain compliance with Medicaid, state, and agency standards.
- Protect client confidentiality HIPAA.
- Participate in audits, reviews, and quality assurance processes.
4. Team Collaboration
- Participate in treatment team meetings and case reviews.
- Communicate effectively with therapists, case managers, and supervisors.
- Assist in developing person-centered service plans.
- Support agency goals and performance standards.
5. Advocacy & Education
Educate clients on recovery principles and self-management strategies.
- Advocate for client rights and access to services.
- Promote cultural competence and trauma-informed care.
- Provide outreach and engagement services when needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Current Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) Certification (State-approved)
- Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery
- Minimum 1 year of recovery stability (or per state guidelines)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if required)
- Ability to pass background and credentialing requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
- Experience working in community mental health or substance use programs
- Knowledge of Medicaid and managed care systems
- Experience working with high-risk or vulnerable populations (veterans, homeless, justice-involved, etc.)
