Our client is in the process of growing out their new Seattle team and looking for candidates who are motivated, outgoing and collaborative!
As a Senior Network Operations Engineer this individual is the primary owner of managing our technical operations. They will work closely with the entire services division in designing, deploying, and maintaining our data center, both COLO and cloud-based.
Responsibilities:
• Ensure that our databases are working properly by taking a proactive approach in anticipating our database needs.
• Respond to any alerts, notifications, outages, or emergencies that arise from our services infrastructure.
• Establish security settings to ensure that data center components are only accessible by parties that should have access to the data.
• Manage and maintain the existing SQL Server transactional replication infrastructure.
• Install and configure operating systems, databases, and other software as necessary.
• Design and implement a plan for moving necessary servers from our existing data center to a Cloud-based solution.
• Assist in the design and implementation for moving off SQL Server replication to a more reliable and maintainable alternative.
• Provide the management team with reports indicating the health and status of our services.
• Participate in the hiring process by interviewing future candidates.
• Plans and coordinates with software development team to ensure present and future services needs are met.
• Prepare, maintain, and distribute guidelines/best practices for administering data center computers and components.
Requirements:
• 5-10 years relevant work experience.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, database programming methodologies, processes and best practices.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Good understanding of industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies.
• Able to effectively convey technical aspects to senior Leadership and other members of the software team.
• Ability to perform hardware purchasing and maintenance, including OS resources such as processors and memory
• Network topology and bandwidth allocation and operating system / network users and roles
• Regular full/incremental database backups and testing restores, SQL Clustering and failover management
• Experience working with various operating systems and extensive Windows experience
• Understanding IP addressing, routing, DNS
• Experience with SMTP and basic understanding of IIS, ASP.NET
• Experience with remote monitoring systems
• Manage our storage requirements to ensure adequate capacity
• Prevent and detect security breaches
• Experience in maintaining and upgrading hardware
• Comfortable working in datacenter with several racks of machines
• Ability to diagnose hardware failures, replace drives, cables and equipment
• Manage background jobs and tasks working with Windows task scheduler
• Ability to write simple scripts/program to accomplish tasks
• Ability to manage cloud operations
• Familiar with either AWS or Azure
• Must have strong communication skills to communicate effectively with internal teams
• Ability to be “on-call” as the first level of response to operations issues
