Position Summary:
We are seeking a part-time licensed Substance Abuse Counselor for our Opioid Treatment Program located in Virginia. The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible to provide counseling services to patients in accordance with State and Federal regulations and agency policies and procedures, and to provide clinical assistance to counselors in coordination with Director of Substance Abuse Counseling.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other essential documentation in accordance with applicable federal and state standards, as well as agency policies and procedures.
2. Provide patients with orientation regarding objectives of the program, phase system requirements, rules and regulations, hours of services, patient rights, and additional information to help patients adjust to the program.
3. Counsel patients in crisis situations by identifying patient resources and coping abilities in order to help patients cope with and take steps to resolve crisis.
4. Arrange referrals to other agencies and resources in the community when appropriate.
5. Perform quarterly treatment plan reviews.
6. Participate in case conferences and case reviews in accordance with established policies and procedures.
7. Develop and increase knowledge of federal, state, and agency regulations regarding confidentiality, methadone treatment, and substance abuse counseling certification.
8. Submit all internal and external correspondences to supervisor for review and approval.
9. Secure necessary documentation from patients, when appropriate, to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
10. Submit monthly and quarterly statistical reports to supervisor.
11. Other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
1. CSAC Required
2. Preferably has a minimum of 1 year experience in substance abuse treatment.
3. Have demonstrated superior clinical skills and the ability to share expertise with others.
5. To understand the clinical benefits and limitations of urine screens, toxicology, and other testing procedures.
6. Trained/certified in CPR and Basic Life Support.
7. To be culturally competent.
8. Knowledge of 12-Step Recovery Program theory preferred.
9. Knowledge of and experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of and experience working with Microsoft Access helpful.
10. The most qualified candidates shall be proficient in Zoom and/or other videoconferencing platforms.

Pay: From $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
