The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Child Development Center Clerk, providing technical and clerical support for the smooth operation of the Child Development Program to include customer service, monitoring customer entry, data automation for maintaining files, file maintenance, payroll, financial record keeping and enrollment.

Qualifications:

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade NK-01, GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes experience in communicating effectively and with tact and courtesy to both adults and children, individually and in groups, applying instructions, directives, and local policies and procedures of Child Development Programs, experience in utilizing regulations concerning child illness, as outlined in AFR215-27, and in maintaining accurate enrollment records according to AFI 34-144. Experience in planning and organizing work to meet deadlines, operating a cash register with proper cash handling, and utilizing a variety of office automation software to produce documents, reports, and spreadsheets.

NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of thisannouncement.
OR
EDUCATION:
Have successfully completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Combination of education and experience as described in the job opportunity announcement and education. NOTE: only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  • Skill in communicating effectively, with adults and children, individually and in groups, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy.
  • Knowledge of Child Development Programs, Instructions, directives, and local policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and procedures as outlined in AFR215-27 as they pertain to child illness.
  • Skill and knowledge to operate or learn to operate a cash register and proper cash handling.
  • Ability to monitor enrollment by keeping accurate records according to AFI 34-144.
  • Ability to plan, organize work and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases and graphs.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

  1. Establishes, updates, monitors, and maintains office records of various types.
  2. Cordially greets parents, children and visitors upon entering the Child Development Centers.
  3. Responsible for the accuracy of daily cashier reports, USDA records, reimbursement reports, deposits and all financial reports.
  4. Enrolls new children assisting parents with the completion of Air Force Forms 1181, USDA, waiting list, and any other form necessary for program enrollment.
  5. Ensures parents complete local emergency contact information, sign for authorizing emergency medical treatment of children, and update annually or as immunizations are required or as other changes takes place
