POSITION SUMMARY: The Grocery Department Manager will assist with the scheduling and supervision of grocery team members including placing orders each week. All duties will be performed in a manner that will help achieve the Medford Cooperative’s mission and goals.
Principal Duties
- Greet all customers with a friendly attitude and serve our customers in a friendly, efficient manner
- Promote positive culture and ensure effective communication
- Reports to work at the assigned/scheduled time and may be required to fill in as needed in other customer facing roles
- Serve customers throughout the store while modeling a service-oriented culture and providing “best in class” customer service, which includes, greeting, engaging, and thanking every guest for their business.
- Responsible for thorough and consistent training and leadership of grocery employees.
- Manage grocery labor goals by creating employee schedules to maximize production.
- Promotion planning to include advertised and in-store specials along with seasonal events.
- Keeps all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked and properly rotated.
- Maintain inventory levels, place weekly order and ensure accurate pricing.
- Assist store management in preparing the departmental budget, profit and loss reviews and take appropriate action on financial reports.
- Provide consistent, timely and friendly customer service when answering questions, making recommendations and promoting products through suggestive selling.
- Walk department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and overall clean appearance at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience Required:
- HS Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous department management experience in grocery preferred but will train the right attitude
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Strong demonstration of organizational, planning and time management skills
- Fast-paced environment requiring standing up to 8 hours per day.
- Proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance, monitoring profitability and managing inventory
- Must be able to follow verbal and written directions in regard to paperwork and daily reporting.
- Must possess computer skills to operate scanners, registers, calculators, etc. to perform the basic functions of the job.
- Ability to use handheld computers for orders, mark ups/downs and inventory
- Friendly, courteous, service-oriented attitude
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to accommodate a fluctuating schedule, which includes working weekend and holiday shifts
- Must be patient and helpful to exceed the customer’s expectations.
- Must be able to safely lift ten (10) pounds frequently and up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to lift, twist, bend, stoop, squat, stand, reach, pull, push and lift overhead.
Working Conditions:
- Position requires this candidate to work 40 hour per week in this full-time position.
- Smoke-free environment.
- This position is primarily indoors but at times may be exposed to heat/cool outdoor temperatures.
