Date posted: December 11, 2025Job description:Job OverviewWe are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Controller. The Controller is accountable for the the production of periodic financial reports, continuing to maintain an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).ResponsibilitiesEnsure the monthly and annual closing process results in timely and accurate financial statements.Establish major economic objectives and policies for the company and prepares reports that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present and future operations.Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and internal control procedures, and analyzes and reports variances.Ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts receivable, accounts payable, company credit cards/travel and living expense reports, fixed assets, and payroll processing.Work with the operations department and the owners to determine the proper recognition of consulting income on a monthly basis.Ensure healthy cash flow through driving net working capital and monitoring net liquidity. Lead both expedited collection of AR and managed AP processing. Optimize cash flow through effective management of accounts receivable and accounts payable.Issue payroll, review all reports issued by the payroll. Monitor ADP charges and oversee filing of the 941s, W-2s, and W-3s and ensure compliance with payroll reporting requirements.Work directly with president in controlling costs and maximizing efficiency.Document procedures and job descriptions for the accounting department. Set priorities and goals for the team, perform staff performance evaluations, and provide training to staff.Implement, document and maintain adequate internal controls.Prepare reports for direct cost analysis of significant general ledger accounts like telephone, hotels, lodging, vehicle maintenance and repair expenses. Identify areas for cost savings.Understand 401(k) management including evaluation of provider and funds. Review tax returns and other tax filings, 401(k) financial statements, and year-end reviewed GAAP financials for accuracy.Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and other regulatory requirements.Oversee balance sheet reconciliation processes, ensuring all accounts are accurate and up-to-date through detailed account analysis and account reconciliation procedures.Prepare and review financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, with clear financial report writing that supports management decision-making.Lead the preparation of regulatory filings and ensure adherence to governmental accounting standards for nonprofit or governmental entities as applicable.Coordinate cash management activities including forecasting, bank reconciliations, and monitoring cash flow to optimize liquidity.Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with policies such as SOX.Utilize accounting software such as Sage to streamline processes and improve financial data accuracy.Support budgeting processes by providing detailed financial analysis and forecasts that align with organizational goals.Conduct technical accounting research on complex transactions involving debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, or new standards to ensure proper application of accounting principles.Have experience with government contracts, grants and B2B contracts.Qualifications Needed:Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance and/or a CPA license.10 to 15 years of experience in senior-level finance or accounting position and a CPA license. 3 years in a position equivalent to a Controller or higher responsibilities.Experience and knowledge of the Sage accounting software system or another automated accounting system.Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), IRS and local tax regulations.Attention to detail, good organizational skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.5 or more years of supervisory experience required.Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner.Ability to recruit and develop talent and motivate team to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
