What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crew Leader position at AESSE INVESTMENTS LTD?
Operates the mixer, extruder and other related equipment to safely produce high-quality plastic compound pellets and/or powder blends in a timely fashion. Conducts in-process quality testing. Provides guidance and leadership to team members. Maintains communication with other Crew Leaders, and with Plant Management.
What You’ll Be Doing:
• Set up, tear down, adjust and operate all aspects of mixers, extruders, blenders, feeders and related equipment used to produce company products
• Cross-check material to production orders
• Coordinate with and assist Shipping and Receiving staff as needed
• Prepare WIP blends for subsequent production runs
• Monitor production parameters and complete all necessary paperwork (i.e. production reports, quality reports, pallet tags, etc.).
• Perform changeovers and drain-outs
• Perform in-process quality control tasks
• Clean equipment before shift change using hand tools, grinders and basic electrical tools
• Use forklift to move materials
• Identify and interact with Maintenance on equipment malfunctions
• Communicate issues to other Team Leaders and Extruder Operators in daily communications meetings
• Perform 5S duties to maintain a safe, orderly and clean work area
• Requisition consumables as needed
• Attend and be a leader at the end-of-shift huddle (communication meeting)
• Requisition consumables as needed
• Communicate process and quality issues to Process Engineer and EHS Manager
• Shut down equipment and interface with proper people on safety, process and quality issues as necessary
• Interact with and assist Maintenance on equipment malfunctions as necessary
• Coordinate rotational work assignments for the team
• Provide coverage as necessary
• Provide input on plant scheduling
• Verify Post-Production Work Orders
• Provide input on developing, updating and writing procedures
• Monitor breaks to ensure adequate coverage
• Communicate company policy and procedure discrepancies to operators.
• Communicate performance and behavioral issues to Manufacturing Manager.
• Assist in the training Extruder Operators
What You Need to Succeed:
Education/Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent is required. At least 3 years’ production experience required.
• Previous experience in compounding plastics and experience with FCM desired. Legible handwriting
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good interpersonal communication skills
• Basic math skills
• Basic computer skills
• Good conflict management skills
• Good problem solving skills
• Good team skills
• Forklift driving experience
• Basic mechanical aptitude
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 75 pounds. Must be able to walk, stand, hear, grasp, squeeze, twist, kneel, crawl, climb & bend in a manufacturing setting for an entire shift. Must be able to wear PAPR units. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to lift overhead. Ability to withstand heat. Ability to withstand dust and fumes. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
