What are the responsibilities and job description for the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AEROSPACE HERITAGE FOUNDATION OF UTAH position at Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Utah?
The Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Utah (AHFU) is a non-profit organization with a primary mission to provide financial support for the Hill Aerospace Museum in Roy, Utah. The Foundation is seeking an experienced Executive Director who is passionate about our mission and able to lead our organization with vision and excellence.
The Executive Director is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the Foundation’s operations, including fundraising, program development, financial management, marketing, strategic planning and staff supervision. The Executive Director will report to the Chairman of the AHFU and will work closely with the AHFU Board of Directors to promote and implement its funding priorities.
In addition to their operational responsibilities, the Executive Director must be a passionate leader who inspires others to engage with our mission. He or she works directly with the Board of Directors, the Foundation staff, the Air Force Museum Director, and his staff to ensure that the organization is fulfilling its mission and serving its constituents effectively. The Executive Director will also be responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including, donors, partners, and community leaders.
Our Executive Director will be a motivational leader with a proven track record of success in nonprofit management, passionate about the Hill Aerospace Museum, and committed to achieving our goals. The Executive Director must be a strategic thinker who is able to balance short-term needs with long-term planning. He or she will have excellent communication skills and be able to represent the Foundation to a variety of audiences.
ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS RELATIONS:
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure the organization is fulfilling its mission
Provide regular updates to the Board regarding the organization’s operations and performance
Work with the Board to develop and implement policies and procedures which support the Foundation’s missions and goals
Provide training to new Board members to familiarize them with Foundation policies and procedures
STAFF MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP:
Serve as a servant leader to the Foundation staff providing guidance, motivation, and support in their duties
Foster a positive work environment promoting teamwork, collaboration and staff growth
Provide regular feedback to staff members, both in the form of ongoing coaching and formal evaluations, to ensure they are meeting performance expectations and helping them to grow in their roles
Model and promote the organization’s values and culture, setting a high standard for ethical and effective behavior
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:
Oversee the organization’s financial management, ensuring that the organization is financially sound and operating with financial prudence for long term sustainability
Develop and oversee the organization’s annual budget, working with the Financial Committee and the Museum Director to ensure that it aligns with the organization’s goals and priorities
Monitor financial performance on an ongoing basis with the Foundation Treasurer and Bookkeeper to ensure the organization is operating within its budget
Ensure that financial reports are accurate and provided to the Board in a timely manner, including working with the external auditor on the annual Foundation audit
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in nonprofit financial management and ensure the Foundation’s financial policies and procedures are in compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines
Manage payroll for the Foundation staff and monitor gift shop operations
FUNDRAISING AND DEVELOPMENT:
Develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive fundraising and development strategy that aligns with the Foundation’s mission and goals, including targets for both restricted and unrestricted donations
Identify and cultivate ongoing relationships with donors and other potential funding sources to secure needed donations
Work with the Board of Directors and the Air Force Museum Director to establish fundraising priorities and opportunities, to include annual giving campaigns, special events, and grant applications
Provide leadership and direction to staff and volunteers involved in fundraising and development activities, ensuring all efforts are aligned with the organization’s goals and priorities
Develop and implement donor stewardship plans to maintain strong relationships with donors, including regular communication, recognition, and engagement opportunities
PROGRAM DEVELOP AND MANAGEMENT:
Develop and implement a strategic program planning process to identify programs that align with the organization’s mission and goals
Work with the Air Force Museum Director and staff to ensure Foundation programs are consistent with the Director’s programs, and where possible, complement those programs for the betterment of the Museum
Where possible, assist the Museum Director and his staff in establishing exceptional education programs, both in-house and outreach, which are an important part of the Museum’s mission
MARKETING, COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC SPEAKING:
Continue the development of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to increase the Foundation’s visibility and reach
Act as the organization’s spokesperson and represent the Foundation at public events and speaking engagements
Work with the Air Force Museum Director and the Board of Directors to establish and implement an effective marketing strategy for the Museum
STRATEGIC PLANNING:
Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the Foundation’s strategic plan
Identify opportunities for growth and expansion and plans to pursue them, adjusting the strategic plan accordingly
Ensure the organization’s programs and activities align with the strategic plan and the Air Force Museum Director’s strategic plan for the Museum
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree (in a related field preferred)
Relevant experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, development, or a related field
Demonstrated strong leadership, communications, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with Foundation staff, Board of Directors, the Air Force Museum Director and his staff, donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders
