Responsibilities
Design & Engineering Development
- Ability to understand and interpret preliminary or high-level control philosophies and transform those ideas into meaningful, tangible outputs related to instrumentation, programming, and control requirements
- Interpret and review mechanical/electrical project drawings as they relate to PFDs, P&IDs, and control schematics, one-line diagrams
- Create I/O lists, motor lists, instrument lists
- Develop data exchange tables for SCADA integration
- Supporting the creation and/or review of internal project-specific P&IDs
- Create Process Control Narratives (PCN) in compliance with project specifications, P&IDs, and mechanical/electrical drawings.
- Review and/or create instrument specification data sheets (flowmeters, analyzers, pressure/level instruments, etc.)
- Supporting instrument selection, sizing, and specification
- Overall review of control panel component selection, design, and functionality
- Preparation of project submittal documentation
Coordination & Technical Support
- Working closely with operations and process engineers to ensure suitable instrument selection for correct measurement and control of process variables (flow, pressure, level, analytical, quality, etc.)
- Liaison with third-party control panel designers, electrical consulting engineers, system integrators (instrumentation interface side)
- Review, comment, and/or approve drawings of third-party control panel designers prior to submission to client and/or release into production.
- Participation in FAT/SAT, instrument checks, functional testing, and sequence/logic testing.
Commissioning, Testing, and Troubleshooting
- Verification of control panel function as per specifications and approved drawings.
- Support Field Technicians with instrumentation and controls expertise during start-up and commissioning of projects including field verification of analog/digital signals, troubleshooting faulty transmitters, sensors, communication issues validating instrument calibration and ranges, sensor calibration and verification procedures, and I/O checks, loop-checks.
Coordination & Technical Support
- Perform work in compliance with quality management and control systems as well as safety procedures.
- Follow all company’s safety procedures and protocols.
- Travel to the job site may be required.
Qualifications & Experiences
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in industrial controls and automation.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
- PLC and HMI experience with Allen Bradley (hardware and programming) preferred.
- Experience with SCADA hardware and software and/or design highly recommended.
- Work experience with water and wastewater equipment, commissioning and/or control panel fabrication considered an asset.
- Certification in Automation considered an asset.
