What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead CNC Programmer–Machinist position at Aegis Manufacturing & Engineering?
Day in the life
You start your day reviewing detailed job specifications, preparing stock, and planning toolpaths. From there, you program and set up 2-, 3-, 4-, and multi‑axis CNC equipment and run operations including drilling, reaming, tapping, countersinking, punching, and additional machining within documented capabilities. You make minor adjustments on the fly, keep the work area organized, and ensure every part meets spec before it leaves your station.
Core responsibilities
- Program and operate one or more fabricating machines to perform drilling, reaming, tapping, countersinking, punching, and related machining tasks.
- Interpret and execute job specifications with precision.
- Perform minor machine adjustments as needed to maintain quality and throughput.
- Inspect finished work and rework piece‑part defects when required.
Inspection & finishing
- Deburr components to meet quality and inspection requirements.
- Sand parts to required finish specifications.
- Wash parts according to job standards.
Programming & setup
- Program and set up standard operations for 2-, 3-, 4-, and multi‑axis machines.
Documentation & recordkeeping
- Complete all job documentation, including:
- CAM file storage
- Employee time cards
- Machine time cards
Machine care
- Perform routine maintenance: clean equipment and apply grease/oil as required.
Continuous improvement & CARs
- Initiate and participate in Corrective Action Reports (CARs), including:
- Identifying errors and opportunities for improvement
- Participating in continuous improvement activities
- Approving CAR closures
- Following procedures for corrective actions and handling nonconforming product
Material preparation & 5S
- Prepare stock material in accordance with production needs.
- Maintain 5S standards by keeping immediate and support areas (saws, non‑CNC machines) clean and organized.
Training & mentorship
- Serve as a 'Master' trainer per the Training Matrix, mentoring and supporting team members.
What you bring
- Minimum of a High School Diploma and 10 years of relevant industry experience.
