Senior Service Technician – CNC MachineryDepartment: Regional Service TeamLocation: Central & Southern OhioTravel: 50–60% (Home on weekends)Position OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Service Technician with strong CNC maintenance and troubleshooting experience. This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and optimizing CNC equipment at customer sites, with an emphasis on mechanical alignment, electrical diagnostics, hydraulics/pneumatics, and CNC control systems. Candidates should be level-headed, customer-focused, and capable of working independently after initial ride-alongs with senior technicians.This position offers a mix of regional travel, schedule flexibility, and competitive pay, with technicians typically traveling during the week and returning home on weekends.Key ResponsibilitiesAdvanced CNC Troubleshooting & RepairPerform precision turn alignments, ball screw replacements, spindle replacements, and backlash correction.Diagnose electrical issues including shorts, grounds, servo malfunctions, and high/low voltage faults.Perform motor testing, including megging motors, interpreting readings, and ensuring motor integrity.Troubleshoot CNC machines from brands such as OKK, Nakamura, mills, and lathes (or similar).Address hydraulic and pneumatic system issues.Handle Fanuc control diagnostics: monitor navigation, fault tracing, parameter basics, and system resets.Installation & CommissioningInstall, align, and calibrate CNC machinery at customer locations.Verify proper machine setup, geometry, and operational readiness.Preventive MaintenancePerform inspections, lubrication schedules, alignment checks, and component life-cycle monitoring.Recommend corrective actions to ensure equipment longevity and reliability.Customer Support & CommunicationInteract with customers professionally, clearly explaining findings and solutions.Address customer complaints calmly and constructively.Provide feedback on machine condition, upgrades, or parts needs.Team Support & TrainingParticipate in ride-alongs with senior technicians during onboarding.Support junior technicians once established, offering guidance on troubleshooting and best practices.DocumentationComplete service reports, maintenance logs, and diagnostic summaries accurately.Maintain organized records of repairs, parts used, and follow-up work.QualificationsRequired ExperienceExtensive background in CNC troubleshooting and maintenance (not machine building).Strong experience with:- Turn alignments, backlash adjustmentsBall screw and spindle replacementsServo systemsHigh/low voltage electrical troubleshootingMotor meggingHydraulics & pneumaticsHands-on experience with Fanuc controls; ability to navigate monitors and perform basic diagnostics.Preferred BackgroundExperience with OKK, Nakamura, mills, and lathes (or similar machine types).Solid understanding of mechanical systems, electrical schematics, and multimeter use.Ability to remain calm under pressure and provide excellent customer service.EducationDegree not required.Prefer Associate or Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience).Travel Requirements50–60% travel, typically Monday–Friday.May require being on the road for up to 3 weeks at a time, followed by extended time at home.Weekends are normally free; technicians are typically home by normal time Fridays.Travel compensation includes:- $150/hr travel rate$0.90/mile reimbursementPhysical RequirementsLift up to 50 lbs.Bending, twisting, crawling as needed for machine access.Ability to climb step ladders up to 8 feet.Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record.You should be proficient in:CNC Machine RepairTroubleshooting CNC MachinesMachines & technologies you'll use:Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) (Fanuc)
