Under the Deep Space Logistics (DSL) Engineering Support (LENS) contract, our employees will provide engineering support to NASA to review and assess activities of the Gateway Logistics Services (GLS) IDIQ Contract Commercial Service Provider. This effort may include the review and assessment of the requirements, design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, verification, validation, assembly, integration, checkout, mission preparations and operations required to deliver cargo and payloads to the lunar Gateway, or for other DSL mission projects and interests.
The Senior Systems Engineer provides support on behalf of our customers to determine and implement mission-enabling requirements across all disciplines and serves as the DSL representative for Gateway activities on-site at Johnson Space Center (JSC). This position will be filled at either the Senior Engineer or Subject Matter Expert level, depending on qualifications, with salary commensurate with experience.
As a Senior Systems Engineer you will:
- Support the derivation/development, documentation, and implementation of requirements for the Gateway Logistics Service at the conceptual, design, and/or manufacturing stage.
- Support Gateway verification planning, taking verification requirements and translating them into design verification objectives and events
- Provide coordination for requirement Change Requests (CRs) with all elements of the DSL team, including the assignment of CR reviews to appropriate Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in DSL.
- Provide triage of requests for deviations or waivers from other elements of Gateway and Moon to Mars to determine if they would affect Gateway, and the DSL managed Logistics Module in particular, design or operations.
- Gateway design review support including review of products from module-level design reviews for adherence to Gateway specifications and standards, understanding the implementation of those module designs to support the mission needs, and authoring comments to enable missing functions with the follow-up to mitigations.
- Provide real-time status and communication updates from Gateway Program Boards and technical working groups at JSC to the DSL technical leadership team (e.g., Element Architecture Associate Project Manager, Element Architect, Fleet Manager, Cargo Manager, and Mission Manager).
- Provide engineering, analysis, test, safety, quality, integration, and operations support for spacecraft ground processing, assembly, integration, and testing in support of launch readiness for Gateway's first element launch (Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) Power and Propulsion Element (PPE)), or other subsequent mission (which may also include International Partner contributed elements). Provide general insight (monitor and evaluate Program decisions) at technical meetings with the Gateway Program at JSC.
- Directly interact with the NASA customer along with various NASA support contractors.
- Provide recommendations to DSL Project, Fleet, and/or Mission Management for concurrence or nonconcurrence with the Gateway Logistics Services Provider’s actions.
- Travel as required in support of technical reviews and exchanges.
- Work both independently and in a team environment, and report directly and support System Management.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in engineering or related discipline from an accredited engineering school and fifteen (15) years of related engineering experience or an M.S. degree in engineering or a related discipline from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years of related engineering experience.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees.
- Experience in change management, configuration management, and coordination of such activities with technical SMEs and leads.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent MS office skills.
- Excellent soft-skills and social networking abilities; ability to integrate into new groups and become a trusted team partner.
- 7 to 10 years of experience in Spacecraft System Engineering or a related field, preferably as a NASA contractor or civil servant.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with NASA Artemis and Gateway Programs and a familiarity with NASA Moon2Mars program architecture.
- MS with 10 years of experience in Systems Engineering.
- Familiarity with NASA System Engineering Standards such as the NASA System Engineering Handbook (NASA/SP-6105), NASA Procedural Requirements (NPR 7123), and NASA Space Flight Program and Project Management Handbook (NPR 7120).
- Experience working with NASA launch services providers.
