We are seeking a Senior Advanced Technical Specialist with deep expertise in trenchless pipeline design, specifically tunneling design, to join our industry-leading infrastructure consulting team. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to engineering teams and clients, delivering advanced technical insights and strategic guidance across all project phases—from conceptual planning to construction management and dispute resolution.

It requires a combination of technical excellence, leadership, and a strong consulting background to support projects involving water and wastewater conveyance, treatment facilities, and energy infrastructure.

We are seeking a Senior Advanced Technical Specialist with deep expertise in trenchless pipeline design, specifically tunneling design, to join our industry-leading infrastructure consulting team. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to engineering teams and clients, delivering advanced technical insights and strategic guidance across all project phases—from conceptual planning to construction management and dispute resolution.
This role is critical to our delivery of complex tunnel and underground infrastructure projects. It requires a combination of technical excellence, leadership, and a strong consulting background to support projects involving water and wastewater conveyance, treatment facilities, and energy infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced technical advice to engineers in tunneling design and design of other trenchless technologies.
- Lead conceptual planning, feasibility studies, risk assessments, and pre-design alternatives analysis.
- Develop and review engineering designs for tunnels, shafts, and underground structures in soil and rock.
- Serve as a project engineer and technical advisor for multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
- Support dispute resolution, claims analysis, and forensic engineering when required.
- Lead the design of shallow and deep shafts, microtunnels, and tunnels in varying geologic conditions.
- Deliver solutions for water/wastewater conveyance systems, including pipelines, intakes, and outfalls.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (PhD preferred but not required).
- 20 years of progressive experience in tunneling, trenchless pipeline design, and underground construction.
- Proven experience with major infrastructure projects, especially in the water and wastewater sectors.
- Demonstrated leadership in multidisciplinary teams and the ability to mentor junior staff.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interface effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Ability to walk up to 3-miles on uneven terrain.
- Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
- May require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear.
- May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload.
- May be required to travel to off-site locations including occasional overnight stays out of town.
