What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate - International Trade (Customs) position at Advocates Legal Recruiting?
Washington, D.C. | 2–3 Years’ Experience | International Trade & Customs
Level Up Your Legal Career in Global Trade
If you're an associate attorney ready to move beyond boilerplate and into high-impact work, this one's for you. Our AmLaw 100 client—known for shaping global trade policy and setting industry benchmarks—is looking for a sharp, driven associate to join their International Trade group, focusing on Customs & Import Controls.
This isn’t a behind-the-scenes role. You'll advise on real-world issues affecting how goods move across borders—from forced labor compliance to multimillion-dollar tariff disputes. Think international impact, but with your name behind the brief.
What You’ll Be Doing
Navigating the rules behind what gets into the country and how, from tariff classification to origin rules.
Advising Fortune 100 clients on everything from valuation to audits to compliance strategy.
Working on customs enforcement matters, including antidumping/countervailing duties and trade litigation.
Handling agency issues (think EPA, FWS, NHTSA) and driving policy conversations around customs regulation.
Crafting arguments, drafting ruling requests, and showing up in spaces where policy meets practice.
You Should Apply If:
You’ve got 2–3 years of legal experience in customs/import control law (government or private practice—we love both).
You actually get excited about trade law and want a role that touches policy, advocacy, and strategy.
You have a J.D. with strong academic credentials and are admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
You’re not just book smart—you’re strategic, curious, and collaborative.
You’re aligned with values like inclusivity, forward-thinking, and excellence. (Yes, we mean it.)
Why This Firm?
This firm is the name in international trade. You’ll be surrounded by leaders in the space, working on cases that shape global commerce. Expect mentorship, real responsibility, and a culture that doesn’t just pay lip service to development and diversity.
They move fast, think big, and invest in the next generation of legal minds. If you're hungry to grow and ready to be heard, this is your place.
