Direct Support Professional (DSP)/Mentor - Syracuse

Advocates Incorporated is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to support a friendly and active gentleman with a developmental disability. He is looking for a Mentor to assist him with working on his goals both at home and in his community.   
  
Goals include:  

• Physical exercise- supporting the individual with participating in exercise opportunities and healthy lifestyle choices such as going to the gym, walking at parks, hiking, and encouraging healthy food choices. 

• Hobbies and interests – supporting the individual with participating in hobbies such as visiting local parks, YMCA, gyms, attending local concerts and events, participating in hobbies and interests such as games, sports, and recreational opportunities.  

Seeking a DSP who is reliable, enthusiastic, and active. Related experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred but not required. Please respond with a resume or summary of experience.  

Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. DSP must have a valid email address. 
  
Hours and days of work:  

This is a part-time position for 20 hours a week supporting this individual. Schedule [days and times] is semi-flexible. Two days a week during the afternoon/evening for 12 hours a week with this individual. 

Additional staffing opportunities for part-time or Full-time positions may also be available within the agency. 

Pay rate: $21 per hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $16 per hour.

Location: Syracuse, NY

• Education & Experience: GED or High School Diploma preferred. Applicable job experience preferred.
• Desired Skills and Abilities: previous experience working 1:1 in a related service environment preferred. Knowledge of disability related issues preferred.
• Other: The individual does not have the authority to set the staff salary in this model. The Mentor is paid at the provider’s rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs of the individual in the areas of behavioral support, communication support, and physical support needs.
