Company Description Advocate Program, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) community agency dedicated to facilitating social change and enhancing public safety through leadership, research, education, supervision, and evidence-based services. Based in Miami-Dade County, Florida, the organization provides probation, diversion, community service, DUI school, traffic school, domestic violence programs, and substance abuse and mental health evaluations and treatment to the Courts and community. Since 1971, Advocate Program has operated as a full-service criminal justice agency, becoming the sole provider of misdemeanor and traffic probation supervision in the county in 1992. The agency also runs pretrial diversion programs, a Domestic Violence Unit, and a state-licensed DUI School serving court-ordered and voluntary clients. Over time, its services have expanded to support juveniles and families impacted by family conflict, domestic violence, and involvement in the justice system.

Role Description The DUI Evaluator is a part-time, on-site role based in Miami, FL. This role conducts structured DUI evaluations for court-ordered and voluntary clients, including gathering personal, legal, and substance use histories and administering standardized assessment tools. The DUI Evaluator documents findings, prepares written evaluation reports and recommendations, and collaborates with internal programs and external partners regarding appropriate education, treatment, or supervision referrals. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate, confidential records, ensuring compliance with state licensing and court requirements, and adhering to agency policies and evidence-based practices. The evaluator may also provide client feedback sessions, participate in case reviews, and support quality improvement efforts within DUI-related services.

Qualifications

  • Assessment and clinical skills: Ability to conduct structured interviews, administer standardized screening tools, and formulate evidence-based recommendations related to substance use and risk.
  • Documentation and compliance: Strong skills in report writing, record keeping, and adherence to court, state, and agency regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills: Capacity to interact professionally with clients, court personnel, and colleagues; skill in explaining evaluation results and recommendations in clear, respectful language.
  • Crisis management and boundaries: Ability to recognize risk factors, respond appropriately to client distress, and maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
  • Relevant education and credentials: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, criminal justice, or related field; advanced degree or licensure (e.g., LCSW, LMHC, LMFT) preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in substance use assessment, criminal justice settings, or DUI-related services in Florida is highly beneficial.
  • Technical and organizational skills: Proficiency with electronic records systems, basic office software, and strong time management to handle multiple evaluations and deadlines.
