Atrium Health, one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive public, not-for-profit healthcare systems, is seeking an experienced Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing critical care team at Atrium Health-Pineville.

Position Overview
Our critical care team is dedicated to delivering exceptional, evidence-based care to critically ill and injured patients. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) work collaboratively with board-certified intensivists and multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive management across several specialty intensive care units, including:
- Cardiac Medical ICU (CMICU)
- Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU (CV/CTICU)
- Medical ICU (MICU)
- Surgical ICU (SICU)
The APP team practices within a highly collaborative environment, supported by attending intensivists, caring for patients in a busy medical center that includes:
- 30-bed Adult Medical/Surgical ICU
- 16-bed Adult Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic ICU
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Daily assessment, management, and documentation of critically ill medical and surgical patients
- Admission and ongoing management of patients from the operating room following complex cardiac surgery
- Admission and management of hemodynamically unstable patients from the cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology labs
- Collaboration with intensivists, surgeons, cardiologists, pharmacists, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team
- Participation in evidence-based critical care practices and quality improvement initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with experience in the following areas are preferred:
- Management of advanced mechanical circulatory support devices, including:
- Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- Impella
- Bedside critical care procedures, including:
- Central venous catheter placement
- Arterial line insertion
- Other vascular access procedures
While preferred, experience with mechanical circulatory support devices and invasive procedures is not required for qualified candidates with strong critical care backgrounds.
