Education Assistance
Major Responsibilities:
Management of surgical schedule
- Assembles, copies, and delivers surgery schedule.
- Coordinates time changes and updates in schedules.
- Maintains schedule per established policies/procedures.
- Consults with Surgical Specialists and/or Clinical Coordinator/Clinical Manager when requested to deviate from pre-set schedule limits.
- Utilizes procedure codes accurately.
- Efficiently utilizes assigned block and open surgical time between ASC and MOR for optimal utilization in both areas.
- Assures that schedule information is up to date.
Accurately inputs data into system
- Maintains accurate information in database.
- Accurately enters data.
- Communicates problems/issues with Clinical Manager in a timely manner.
- Produces and distributes preference cards for next day OR schedules
Communication
- Consistently demonstrates positive communication with physicians, physician office staff, and nursing staff.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Notifies Director of Operations/Business Manager/Clinical Manager of problems, issues, concerns.
Maintains accurate scheduling grid
- Assures that scheduling grid changes are done.
- Maintains scheduling with accurate, current information.
System maintenance
- In collaboration with Surgical Services Project Coordinator, produces system reports.
- Maintains system log of identified problems.
- Communicates system problems to Surgical Services Project Coordinator.
- Acts as system administrator in absence of Surgical Services Project Coordinator.
Education/Experience Required:
- High school graduate. Previous clerical or healthcare related experience (one year).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Proper telephone skills. Good organization and communication skills. Introductory computer skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to patient-focused care.
- Fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases.
- Ability to handle unit equipment and materials is required.
- Ability to perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients (up to 100 lb. may be required).
- Ability to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to transport objects from one location to another.
- This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated. Ability to transcribe medical information.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work within short timeframes. Ability to communicate with patients.
- If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
- For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
