Job Objective:
As the Gift and Estate Planning Stewardship Director, you will manage the stewardship and marketing efforts of the Indiana Planned Giving department. The Director plays a crucial role in solidifying long-term interest in and continued commitment to The Salvation Army, keeping donors and planning advisors informed of the critical role they play. The Stewardship Director is an integral part of the planned giving team, providing support and collaborating with planned giving directors and the donor relations team, ensuring that the mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.
What You Will Do:
- Coordinate, implement, and manage an effective donor stewardship program for planned giving donors, including implementation of the Hope Brigade planned gift donor recognition
- Coordinate promotional materials, certificates and gifts, donor member list, events for the Hope Brigade Giving Society
- Support PG directors by preparing response requests and other communication, communicating with vendors, utilizing PG software, answering phone, etc.
- Maintain and coordinate inventory of promotional materials for donor and professional gifts
- Perform donor research
- Engage donors and their professional advisors in regular communication and events for cultivation and stewardship, collaborating with other development staff as appropriate
- Coordinate, produce, and distribute mass mailings for planned giving donors and professionals utilizing complex queries
- Ensure proper entry of campaign mailing, team actions and donor responses into Salesforce
- Facilitate and assist team with donor/professional events as needed, coordinate marketing materials and donor invitations, secure locations and refreshments
- Develop and implement effective cultivation of planning advisors to include the Red Shield Symposium (in-person estate-planning webcast) as well as other annual outreach and engagement activities, including implementation of the Council of Hope membership and Red Shield Awards.
- Coordinate the Red Shield Symposium host sites in Indiana in collaboration with PG directors and support continuing education record process for attendees
- Manage Planned Giving gift processing and acknowledgement including generating letters, communicating as necessary, and reporting
- Responsible for transmitting accurate accounting to finance and gift processing teams. Utilizing word processing mail merge and complex queries, process and acknowledge outright gifts from donors in a timely manner
- Process, record, and acknowledge expectant and mature gifts from PG donors as communicated by PG Directors or THQ Legal.
- Prepare and coordinate all estate correspondence to donor families and professionals
- Ensure planned and matured gifts are monitored, tracked, recorded, and distributed in an accurate and timely manner, coordinating internal reporting.
- Utilize mail merge and advanced queries
- prepare reports for DHQ and THQ.
- Coordinates receipt and forwarding of legal documents from Corps Officers, attorneys and other professionals regarding matured wills, estates, trusts and trust documents. Submits pertinent documentation from donor files. Maintains and updates Salesforce information as needed.
- Compiles report and reviews the proper recommendation of allocation of donor funds for Divisional Finance Board approval
- Attend appropriate webinars or workshops related to planned giving, vendor software
- Other tasks as assigned by leadership
Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or paralegal certification required
Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed. Findings may disqualify an individual for this position
Experience: One or more years of experience in fundraising, marketing, legal, or planned giving field required.
Certifications: Must pass background check; have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- High level of honor in dealing with confidential information and great attention to detail.
- Works with integrity, valuing honesty and diligence.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, fundraising databases (e.g., Salesforce), and other fundraising software.
- Familiarity with estate and tax terminology and concepts preferred.
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English.
Supervisory Responsibility: Provide guidance, direction, and support to volunteers and special project interns.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a professional environment; eligible for a remote-friendly work environment. Primarily business hours with occasional evenings and weekends.
