Title: Emergency Department Technician – Lutheran General Adult ED

We are seeking nursing students with CNA certification, CNA’s, new EMT’s, MA’s that are passionate to learn about the Emergency Room to join a cohort where you will learn to be efficient as a Tech in Advocate Lutheran General’s Adult Emergency Department. This location is a Level 1 Trauma Center.

Schedule: Cohort to start mid May 2026;

Post orientation, final shift will be 7p-7a. During orientation shifts may vary.

Must be flexible with scheduling for entire orientation period.

Orientation will be approximately 4-6 weeks in length.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Assists the physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care of the patients by performing phlebotomy, transporting patients to other departments, placing patient on cardiac monitors, vital sign monitoring, performs wound care, obtains lab specimens, EKG’s.
  • Documents information/procedures and promptly communicates observations, concerns and needs of the patient to the registered nurse.
  • Processes daily patient charges and/or related procedure through the Electronic Health record (EHR).
  • Collaborates with physicians to support communications required to facilitate patient care. Coordinates and facilitates all forms of communications (phone, verbal, paging, electronic, fax, and EMS system).
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment, following department safety policies and standard precautions.
  • Monitors equipment and troubleshoots minor problems. Arranges repair of major malfunctions.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the TM practices., or
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices or
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices., or
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)


Education Required:

  • High School Graduate.


Experience Required:

  • Experience in field not required as this is a cohort where training will be provided. Must meet licensure/certifications to qualify.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients and their families.
  • Must maintain skill and recertification as required by regulation and organization.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g. Joint Commission, CARF or others).


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs over the head.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
  • Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Will be required to use foot pedals on carts or machines.
  • Will be exposed to the following hazards on a continuous basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and blood and body fluids.
  • Will be required to wear gloves, goggles, and gowns on an as-needed basis.
  • Must have functional sight and hearing.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Salary : $22 - $33
