Adventure Academy of Melissa is seeking a caring, reliable, and energetic Assistant Teacher to join our nature-based early childhood program. This role supports the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
We are a child-centered program that values outdoor learning, exploration, and hands-on experiences. The ideal candidate enjoys working with young children, is flexible, and thrives in an active, team-oriented setting.
This position includes supporting our after-care program and requires availability to work during our summer camp program.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily activities and routines
- Support children’s social, emotional, and developmental growth
- Supervise children to ensure a safe and positive environment
- Help prepare and maintain classroom and outdoor learning spaces
- Assist with daily transitions, including outdoor play and activities
- Help supervise and support students during the after-care program, including activities, play, snack time, and end-of-day routines
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with staff, students, and families
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of materials and supplies
- Be flexible and willing to assist in different classrooms or areas of the school as needed
Qualifications
- Experience working with young children preferred
- Positive, patient, and nurturing attitude
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to work in an active, outdoor environment
- Reliable and punctual
- Flexible and willing to support the needs of the school and teaching team
Requirements
- Must be 18 or older and a high school graduate
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must be willing and available to work summer camp
- Must be willing and available to assist with the after-care program
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30–40 pounds (children, equipment, and supplies)
- Ability to bend, squat, sit on the floor, and engage actively with children throughout the day
- Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions (heat, cold, light rain, etc.)
- Ability to stand, walk, and participate in outdoor activities for extended periods
