Job Summary
Assists the surgeon in the first assistant role, as defined by the privileges established through Medical Staff Office/credentialing process, as an Allied Health professional. The RNFA can act only as the RNFA, not a scrub or circulating RN, during a surgical procedure, concurrently. This position is represented by CNA.

Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience:
- Associate Degree(A.S.) or equivalent: Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred
- Successful completion of a RNFA course: Required
- Three years experience as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room: Required
- Start credentialing process through Medical Staff upon acceptance of position: Required
- Current RN license in state of practice: Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
- Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR): Required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred
- Liability Insurance: Required
- Start credentialing process through Medical Staff upon acceptance of position: Required
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice: Required
- Professional Liability Insurance (PLI): Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
- AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS: Required
- Is competent to provide exposure of the surgical wound intraoperatively, under supervision of the surgeon. Is knowledgeable of and consistently applies the principles of aseptic technique.
- Is competent to provide hemostasis intraoperatively, under the supervision of the surgeon. Is competent to care for/dress the surgical wound, intraoperatively, under the supervision of the surgeon. Is competent to manipulate tissue of the surgical wound, intraoperatively, under the supervision of the surgeon.
- Is competent to safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials from operative procedures. Is competent to access facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care or in the performance of other job related responsibilities.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job specific responsibilities related to patient safety, security, emergency preparedness, emergent patient situations, control of hazardous materials/waste, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems as outlined in the Hospital's environment of care plan.
- Documents temperature of tissue/allografts, verifies package integrity, delivers to sterile field, per manufacturers' guidelines; documents process in appropriate tissue log book. Is competent to efficiently handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
