Job Summary
Maintains responsibility for ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of all respective core lab departmental operations. Is accountable for supervision of departmental staff, training, monitoring, and evaluation of staff, managing department supplies and inventory, assists in the developing, reviewing, and revising of department policies and procedures, assessing clinical laboratory quality control and assurance, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies (e.g., state, federal, College of American Pathologists, and Joint Commission). Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
- Master's Degree: Preferred
- Five years' technical experience: Preferred
- Clinical Lab Scientist experience in hospital setting: Preferred
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) licensure in the state of practice: Preferred
- Medical Technologist (MT) certification: Preferred
- Directs and supervises laboratory personnel, provides technical expertise and administers performance evaluations. Manages daily operations for area of responsibility. Identifies staff education and competency needs and oversees training programs on instrumentation, technology and procedure. Manages staff scheduling and fills in for all positions as needed. Provides training, guidelines and performance evaluations.
- Studies and reports on lab quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA). Responsible for reviewing patient and quality control results for shifts and trends, monitoring quality of departmental functions. Performs and reports Quality Assurance studies, delegating duties as necessary. Identifies and responds to documented shifts and trends by initiating projects to improve and streamline daily lab operations and workflow. Develops and documents laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Provides technical assistance to hospital/laboratory, CCT Liaison and Lab Marketing Rep/Admin Asst. Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations. Ensues readiness for inspections.
- Performs equipment and instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration as appropriate. Inventories and restocks reagents, calibrators, controls and supplies as needed. Orders and maintains supplies at level to meet departmental needs.
- Ensures compliance with rules, regulations and accreditation requirements of regulatory agencies, including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Joint Commission (JC), AABB, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
