The role you’ll contribute: Cardiac Device Technician

We are searching for an experienced Cardiac Device Technician that will produce pacemaker/AICD recordings, checks battery life, settings, sensitivity, magnate/non-magnate heart rate, ERI and leads by performing the following duties.

Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Performs ECG analysis with and without magnet application (pacemaker only).
  • Performs interrogation of the patient's device with the programmer that is appropriate for their device, printing out and reviewing data such as parameter, battery and lead status, and heart rate histograms.
  • Performs output threshold testing of the pacemaker lead(s) to determine optimal settings for the device.
  • Determines underlying rhythm and sensing function, if requested. Verifies final parameters and changes, referring results to be review by a Cardiologist; Refers the patient to a nurse or Cardiologist for a physical assessment and for any changes in the patient's condition or worsening of symptoms or arrhythmias.
  • Consults technical support specialist of the company that has manufactured the pacemaker or defibrillator for a detailed review of the findings and for assistance with advanced programming details. Examines the trans-telephonic results comparing them to known indicators of proper functioning and sub clinical failure and refer the findings to the Cardiologist. After analysis of trans-telephonic results, instructs the patient to report back to Cardiologist for a more detailed follow-up.
  • Maintains a database through the designated Computer System for patient recalls and follow-up and will provide booklets for patient education. Notes any device and lead alerts that that are received form any manufacturer and notifies any patients who are affected by such alerts as prescribed by the Alert notice. Assists the Device Tracking Divisions of the various manufacturers to maintain their database with current patient information.
  • Relays information on advances and changes in pacemaker defibrillation technology to colleagues in the Department. Keeps up to date on technical advances by attending seminars that provide CEUs. Orders specialized paper for individual programmer and patient education materials.
  • Always maintains complete and up-to-date documentation and files including product and service quotes.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma
  • Advanced ECG knowledge through direct work experience or course completion
  • Direct patient care experience in a Cardiology setting, 1 – 3 years
  • Certified Medical Assistant or LPN OR
  • Certified Cardiograph Technician (CCT) OR
  • Certified EKG Technician (CET)
