Job Description:
Participates in performance improvement activities, resolves customer service issues, evaluates new equipment and procedures, and monitors staff performance. Assists department leadership with staffing, interviewing, orientation, training, coaching, mentoring, and competency assessment. Coordinates and facilitates the clinical experience of students in affiliated education programs. Participates in various committees or teams and assists with special projects as assigned. Ensures department workspaces are maintained in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner, and oversees post-analytical activities. Follows and enforces safety policies including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and completes required training for handling hazardous waste. May include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment. Leads and participates in laboratory performance improvement activities, promoting team building, employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and safety. Other duties as assigned. Evaluates and monitors program needs, identifies unmet needs, and assesses program services and staff. Performs and oversees pre-analytical laboratory activities, including equipment maintenance, inventory control, specimen collection, processing, and cleaning. Provides technical and support information related to laboratory testing for all age groups. Supports staff through effective scheduling, workload assignments, troubleshooting, and motivation to achieve high performance.
