An established, privately held building-systems and power-services company serving commercial, healthcare, education, government, and mission-critical (data center) clients across the Midwest is adding field technicians to its standby-power service team. This is hands-on field service on commercial standby and emergency generators: diagnostics, preventative maintenance, load-bank testing, and repair across all major makes, models, and sizes (up to 3 MW). Techs run their own routes from home to client sites, typically 1-2 calls a day, with a company service truck and tools provided. The team is being rebuilt from the ground up, and early hires will have real input into how the group is run. For a strong technician, this is stable, guaranteed-40 work with a family-first, promote-from-within employer that keeps you home at night.

• Anticipated $80K-$110K, based on experience

Overview

• Diagnose, service, and repair commercial standby/emergency generators to the component level across diesel and natural-gas units
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, oil changes, load-bank testing, and automatic transfer switch (ATS) work
• Respond to break-fix and emergency calls and keep critical facilities online
• Work independently on-site (one-tech jobs are the norm; larger jobs are staffed with two)
• Keep equipment and job sites clean, safe, and documented

Preferred Skills and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade school or diesel/electrical coursework a plus
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (company vehicle provided)
• Strongly Preferred — hands-on standby/emergency generator (genset) service experience, diesel or natural gas
• Strongly Preferred — ability to read electrical control schematics and troubleshoot to the component level
• Familiarity with automatic transfer switches (ATS) and NFPA 110 standby-power service a strong plus
• Prior work on critical-facility power (data centers, healthcare, rail, government) is a strong signal
• Diesel/heavy-equipment mechanics (ag, construction, or over-the-road) open to cross-training on the electrical/power side will be considered
• Self-directed, reliable, safety-minded, and comfortable running a solo route
