What are the responsibilities and job description for the YB Mentor position at ADVANTIX DEVELOPMENT MASTER?
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a mentor to students. The YouthBuild Mentor assists students in learning to balance personal and academic life and succeed within YBE’s curriculum. In addition, the incumbent provides information about services and resources and initiates social and educational opportunities to provide an integrated learning experience for students.
All activities must support Advantix’s strategic goals and objectives and produce results that accomplish the goals of the overall organization.
The YouthBuild Mentor is a grant-funded job. A grant-funded job is a position that is financed through external funding, usually provided by government agencies, nonprofits, or private organizations. These roles exist as long as the grant funds are available and may be temporary or subject to renewal.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Primary areas of responsibility and tasks that may typically be expected include but are not limited to:
- Assists students throughout the year with academic and personal life skill-building by providing peer academic advising and academic support.
- Makes referrals to resources as appropriate in both routine and emergency.
- Serves as a role model for students by encouraging and modeling a successful balance of academic and personal life.
- Maintains a strong presence within the community by keeping office hours, being available during high-need periods, and sending emails.
- Takes initiative to get to know and contact students both individually and as a group by checking in on them, especially new enrollees several times a month.
- Maintains an active and visible role and is available and approachable for students.
- Disseminates information about events and policies and processes to students by hanging reminder posters and through emails.
- Facilitates purposeful and relevant programs and activities for students, including educational hangouts per semester.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR CERTIFICATION
- GED or High School Diploma
- Alumni from the YouthBuild program (candidate must have successfully completed the YouthBuild program)
- Served on the leadership team (Preferably)
- Possession of valid Indiana Driver’s License. Possession of valid Indiana Driver’s License.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have average abilities using computer software such as MS Word, and Outlook and should be capable of using internet resources for research and developing reports. Proficient in operating and troubleshooting personal and laptop computers. Ability to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Operate motor vehicle to visit various sites and properties. Frequently move about the interior and exterior of assigned property. Work in a variety of conditions and locations including on ladders, rooftops, confined areas, underground spaces, etc. Lift and carry items weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
